Torn on which DVD Burner to buy...

Right now I'm looking at the NEC 1300A, and the Optowrite DD0203. The only real difference I see in between them right now is the NEC has a 2MB cache, while the Optowrite has an 8MB cache. Anyone have any insight, or any words of wisdom for me?

Well, money is kind of an issue, and these both hit right around my price point of <=$150. However, I am not confined to these. If anyone could recommend another burner which is DVD+/- for around $150, I'd be appreciative.

I wouldnt trust Tom to go buy a box of kleenex, let alone a dvd burner.

The only problems I've heard about with the NEC is that it tends to be picky about generic media. I only use good, name brand media and I have a Pioneer that works wonderfully. You can probably find an A05/105 pretty cheap now that the A06/106 is out.

Go with the NEC, I have one and the more I use it, the more I like it... CPU Magazine did a test between a Verbatim (NEC 1300A), Sony (DRU-510A) and Pioneer (DVR-106D) with the overall winner being the NEC and at a lower price point than the other two drives....

Edit: Agreed on picking media carefully... Ritek looks to be the brand of choice..... avoid Princo....

opps, guess I need a break from the Pc my eyes are playing tricks on me. 🙂

I'm also running a rebadge of the NEC 1300A. It seems to be a nice drive so far(Haven't really done any DVD-Burning yet with it, but it burns CD's great and hasn't shat itself trying to read anything yet, so I take that as a good sign).
