Where will that 8800gts be in 3 years? In a scrap heap, barely able to play bargain bin games at that point.

PS3, there's nothing to play on the PC right now and won't be for awhile. But like others have mentioned, an Xbox 360 would be a better choice than the PS3. I own both consoles and the 360 is definitely the better console and it's online network blows away Sony's.

nothing to play? medieval 2, knights of the nine, company of heroes, nwn2, c&c3 should be out shortly, wow expansion, aoe3, hl2 episodes, supreme commander (should be awesome), spore and crysis should both be out before there are many good games for ps3... ps3 just isn't a good idea at the moment. no must have games a high price tag, and whatever gremlins there are in the early hardware (you know there will be some)

the PS3 might be similar if there aren't enough early adopters to give it critical mass.

The best option isn't here. The Xbox 360 is simply better than the PS3, at least so far. I love my PS3 as well, but the whole PS Network and PS3 OS just seem ancient and inefficient after having played the 360. Downloads take forever and you can't even play a game while DL'ing or pause and return later. The menu looks blah and isn't nearly as functional as the 360's either. Games don't feel as challenging or as interesting without gamer points, even though before I had a 360 I never would have thought about them.

Resistance is good, though in many ways it feels like another old generic alien-shooter. Reminds me of Quake 4 with the whole "conversion" thing. Besides Resistance, what is there to come? MGS4 and a new Killzone, perhaps, but the lineup doesn't look so promising. Neither does the Wii's lineup. The 360 on the other hand has a golden lineup already and plenty of games coming in 2007.

When it comes to PS3/X360 vs PC, that's a question I can't really answer. You can get the console, but you'll miss out on titles like Company of Heroes and other RTS games, along with many FPS's and RPG's. I love RTS games so if I had to choose one I'd have to go with the PC.

In reality it's a decision YOU will have to make, not us.

i say 8800GTS. the PS3 is still unatainable and you can only play with games with it. (assuming you don't hack it.) with a PC, you can do much more plus games don't cost as much.

UT2k7 will probably be for PS3 and PC IIRC, although it will be better on PC.

that really worries me , but the Ps3 will be adopted by the people ,there is no doubt in it and i think more good games will be on it then computer relatively. Don't you guys think computer gaming is going lower and lower each year ? or maybe im saying wrong ? some of great games are coming for PC next year ,but would they fill in ?

Yes, but remember that his current computer can probably do everything else he would do perfectly fast...unless he's doing some serious 3D modeling.

This is why I got tired up trying to play catchup and jumped shipped to the 360. It gets tiresome and just too draining on the wallet to design a "future-proof-as-possible" rig around a video card, which will need to be upgraded in 1.5 years. Also, it's cost prohibitive from the start (in my case). With the 360 I make my initial purchase and I'm good for 4 years or more.

People who say 8800GTX are foolish.

First of all, we all know how fast the video card industry goes and the 8800GTX will be outperformed within a year.

They're no DX10 games; and this coming from a PC enthusiast, PC gaming has fell off BIG time.

PS3 sucks now as far as games goes but it will be around for a while and programmers will optimize their games to its specs over the years.

Games will come with time, it will develop and flourish.

My vote goes to a 360/PS3.

As it stands now, 360>PS3 but guess what, the 360 had a whole year head start, of course it's more developed.

PS3 is more powerful IMO, can't go wrong with either.

I have to say, I was dissapointed when I played the PS3. The graphics are pretty cool (nothing better then GoW), but the game was visably laggy. I expect my games to be buttery smooth, so having lag on a $600 console put me off quite a lot.

I say go for the 8800 GTs.

:beer:😀

According to the DHL tracking system, My 8800gts is arriving today 🙂 Yea.. why pick a video card. It has better graphics then a ps3... years from now, it will still have better graphics than the ps3. The games are cheaper than a ps3. Also, Sony is evil.. rootkits... weird marketing schemes.. general malaise with sony in general...

ps3 == $600
8800gst == $400 (I got a bargain)

If you have an HDTV you could also make use of the Blu-Ray movie player on the PS3. The PS3 is by far the better value, but if you are strictly interest in FPS/RTS games then go with the PC vid card.

the fall off of PC gaming is nothing compared to the fall off a failed console sees.

i'm sure lots of people thought the saturn was going to be awesome. 'sony, what are they doing in video games?!?'

one more thing is that, i can buy one of these two this year ,maybe i could buy a ps3 or 8800gts rig in early/mid 2008 ,then what you think i should by first ? Ps3 or the rig ?

definitely the 8800gts rig. you can get really good games for it *right now.* ps3 probably won't have more than a handful of really good games for a year or more. plus there might be a price drop after a year if blue ray diodes drop in price. not to mention they'll have a revision or two with bug fixes.

you can get an 8800gts, c2d, and mobo for the price of the ps3.

either one, PS3 or 8800, will cost half as much 6 months from now.

so the question is, what good are they going to do you in the next 6 months, and how much is that worth ?
