Torn between PS3 and 8800gts rig

I am really torn between PS3 and 8800 gts'ed rig , i both love pc gaming as well as console gaming ,but i can buy only one at a time , what should i do ????

i agree the wii360 is a better option, but given your two choices id go with the ps3 simply because it's cheaper that a full rig and the games likely will be good later on. Also, you can still play pc games on your old rig, albeit not as well as the new rig.

Currently I would do the 8800. There just isn't enough yet for the PS3. There will be by the middle of next year hopefully, so save up!

I would guess that the PS3 would retain its value better than a high-end video card, but then the PS3 doesn't have many good games out right now. on the other hand there probably isn't a game out yet that can take full advantage of the 8800gts. I would wait on both but IMO the PS3 is the better purchase.

Hard to say, PS3 seems like the better choice initially, but you'll end up paying $65 a game (60 + tax), so it'll cost you much more more money in the long run (or in the short run). Graphics cards are always a bust, like $450 bucks to get 20 more FPS if you're lucky. I vote PS3, you'll enjoy it much more, who knows, maybe they'll hack it soon 😛

the thing is that my old rig is so old that it can't even barely play today's game and i have just sold my ps2 and xbox .

I can barely play any PC games from 2-3 years ago on my system (in sig). I mean, I can play them, but not with decent graphics, jaggies everywhere. PC gaming has always been a huge pain to try and keep up with, the games graphic wise are always 3 or 4 years ahead of what computer can truly handle.

if you are gonna spend a shitload spend it on a pc. I don't do hardcore gaming anymore. I just got a gamecube recently for fun.

I feel your pain. The new system I just built won't even play HL2 🙁. The graphics drivers for Vista64 make playing impossible 🙁

You can barely play games from 2-3 years ago with that config ?
Yikes, my system must be dog old then (P4 & 6600GT).
I hate keeping up with the new games, always a losing battle.

Think about it this way.
How many hours you've spent playing PS2 or PC so far?
the winner gets the upgrade.

If you already have a computer, get the ps3. If you don't, get the PC.

I dunno.. depends what games you play. I havent played a pc game besides CS: source in years so my 3500+/6600GT is fine.. but i just got done playin mgs 3 for ps2 and really might end up with a ps3 when MGS 4 comes out.

Take a look at the upcoming games and ones down the road for each and maybe that will help. I'm broke so it doesnt matter for me now but if I had to choose I would say that with the Ps3 I'm always gonna have Maddens, at least one Final Fantasy, at least one MGS, and at least one Gran Turismo. For the PC I still dont see a game replacing source for a while so Im gonna hold off until that game comes out.. maybe the new Farcry.

I'm not sayin 4-5 games is worth buyin a ps3 over, but i mean.. for me MGS 4 and FFXIII are must haves if I'm spending 600 bucks on somethin for video games and I dont see anything on the PC like that. I'd be pretty pissed come next year when im still playin source on an aging 8800GTS when killer titles were just released for ps3.

simply put, ps3 is a better long lasting longterm investment!

the games will get only better and better, you will also get a blue ray disc player as an added bonus, plus you will not have to upgrade it ( compared to 8800gts video card)
plus it will give you alot and lots of game not available on pc

Get the PS3.

Upgrade your pc in 8-10months as the upgrades will cost a hell of a lot less. The PS3 price will be about the same.

I got a 8800gts (new build). I am extremely happy. I don't have any games that can take good advantage of it though, or anything that can stress it. Though I can play Unreal Tournament 2004 with maximum settings @ 1680x1050 with 260 frames per second.

you'll use the pc all the time and for plenty of things. the ps3 you'll probably use occasionally... or maybe even rarely. that first game is gonna be a 650+ dollar game you know. neither is a good buy. better to get a mid range card or a 360. unless you have a 30" lcd i don't see the point anyways

PS3, there's nothing to play on the PC right now and won't be for awhile. But like others have mentioned, an Xbox 360 would be a better choice than the PS3. I own both consoles and the 360 is definitely the better console and it's online network blows away Sony's.
