"Torchwood" to return.

Torchwood will be back on television next summer in a couple of new homes, with Starz replacing BBC America as the sci-fi series' American broadcaster and the characters perhaps leaving their Wales stomping grounds to reflect "the more international scope of the series."

Then-Doctor Who showrunner spun John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness off into his own, more adult-themed series in 2006 (it debuted [in the US] in early 2007), about a covert British government team specializing in alien life. The show muddled through a first season that took the "adult" designation to mean "lots of sex and nothing but," creatively improved in its second season, then took a massive leap forward with last summer's Torchwood: Children of Earth five-night miniseries.

That miniseries ended with only two members of the team remaining: Jack and Eve Myles' Gwen Cooper, and Jack was leaving Earth to cope with the losses he suffered during the story. Both Barrowman (who was attached to a failed attempt to produce a new US-based version of the series for Fox) and Myles will return, and other castmembers will be announced soon. Davies, who turned over the Doctor Who franchise to Steven Moffat, is still attached to produce.

The press release suggested the partnership with Starz "will allow Davies and his writing team to tell a more explosive and global story," and noted that the series "has to date been located primarily in Cardiff, Wales," suggesting Jack, Gwen and company might be traveling far and wide whenever he gets back to our particular globe.

hehe. Dumping Syfy for Starz.
and wtf about trying to get Fox to pick up the series? It would only get cancelled early.

my friend told this show is just about a main character that all of sudden turned homo. and then the rest of the series is him making out with other dudes. He was literally wtf, it used to be a good show.

Nah, he was always gay. Or rather, as he puts it, he's a 51st century guy. Twice the chance of a date on saturday night.

Who the hell is that? :hmm:

See.. I can do it too!

And if you genuinely didn't know I'd answer, what I would do is have a massive orgasm and start screaming that your'e a troll and a moron, like everyone does when I ask a question about something obscure and american, like what is "the three stooges"...

On the off chance that you weren't being sarcastic David tennant was the 10th actor to play The Doctor in the UK series Doctor Who

I don't think that makes him gay, he's bisexual. (unless some species have more than two sexes as he's probably into them too)

Is Torchwood a decent series? I see they have it available on Netflix streaming.

It's better than Stargate Universe 🙂

Keep your expectations modest, and you might enjoy it. Like if it was Matt Smith Dr. Who without Amy Pond. But not that good.

Correct; in both Doctor Who and Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness' character is bisexual. He hits on everyone (much to the annoyance of The Doctor).

I miss that universe, rather than the Matt Smith one, it was so much more adult.

Torchwood tried too hard to be edgy and relevant, ended up being a sad attempt at a drama and/or sci-fi. Not a single likable character by the end of season 1.

Children of Earth, though, was actually not bad as a standalone mini-series. It stuck close to a single, well-crafted story line. Darker than Doctor Who, but good in it's own right. I would recommend it to Doctor Who fans. Not Torchwood, though; not unless you are a fan of risque (and as mentioned, some gay) modern drama in a sci-fi series.

I'll give the next season/series of Torchwood a chance since it is nearly a reboot of the series with most of the previous cast gone. I have mixed feelings about Harkness. He's a bit annoying, but he's also this conflicted character of a similar mold as the Doctor: a man of courage who loves adventure.

Wait a minute....you think the Three Stooges are obscure?

Oh bullshit..... Blind retarded kids in Angola have heard of the Three Stooges.

No, no they haven't it's not been on TV in the UK whilst I've been alive as far as I'm aware... Even things like the top 100 comedy sketches on BBC1 didn't have it.

I still don't get why the BBC gave up this series. It was a ratings hit for them and quickly moved from BBC3 to BBC2 to BBC1. My biggest concern is that Starz will find some way to water it down and/or ruin it after it finally managed to climb out of its hole.

I already PM'ed Starz. Told them less gay sex, more lesbian sex.
