Toppings go under the cheese or above the cheese on a pizza?

On top of, although I do like to sprinkle a bit more on top of the toppings before baking.

Although traditionally pizza topping have been put on top of the cheese, there is a current trend to place the topping below the cheese. Scientists are baffled.

I fyou want a pizza with a crap load of extra cheese, tell them to make it like they normally would but when it comes out of the oven put another layer of cheese on. The residual heat will melt it and you'll have almost double the cheese.

New York style - toppings above
Chicago style - toppings under

When it's take-out: On top.
When I make it at home: Under the cheese.

But, considering the word is toppings, they should be on top.

Both...

I worked at a small pizza shop, that made great pizza....Dough was made from scratch every couple of hours, and you got dough->sause->cheese (about 1 lb iirc) then toppings then another 1/2 lb cheese on top of that...total pizza precook wight was like 8 lb or something like that, but I don't remember. Also, if the pepperoni didn't touch all the others around it, you didn't have enough.

12.87 for a 16" with any toppings you want...not too shabby a price, but that was about 10 years ago.

When I make it from scratch (which is like 90% of the time we have pizza), I put the cheese on top. I don't know why, I just like it better that way.

I like it with cheese, then toppings, then more cheese. I almost always sprinkle more cheese on a take & bake pizza if I have some handy. Mmmmm.. I love golden brown cheese.

Depends on the toppings and the taste you're trying to achieve. As far as "toppings" being self defined, you certainly wouldn't put the pepperoni on the bottom of the pizza ;)
Cheese originally was thought of as a topping before it became standard. But, by varying where the toppings are - above the cheese, below the cheese, or sandwiched between two layers of cheese, you can greatly affect the resulting flavor and texture. (Personally, I prefer fresh mushrooms to be under the cheese, but canned mushrooms to be on top with just a little bit more cheese added to hold it all together.)

I don't have them put any toppings on my pizzas ever. Cheese pizza with extra sauce is the nuts.
