top ten signs you're a fundamentalist christian

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

I was a fundamentalist Christian a few minutes ago. You have convinced me in the error of my ways. Long live Richard Dawkins!

Atheistic zealots are almost as bad (and inane) as the religious ones.

The first 5 or so are really good but they get worse as they go along. Kind of like the top 10 from Letterman's show, the best ones seem to be 10-6 rather then 5-1

I would almost reverse that list, 10 being 1 and 1 being 10

I was thinking the same thing, but I would leave the original #1 right off the list, god that one is awful.

This is the thing that gets me.

People take Christianity as the end-all, be-all of religions and think that anyone else who worships a different God is going to hell, is a sinner, or otherwise just not worth anything.

My contention to this point has always been, what if you didn't grow up in the United States? What if you were born to parents in some far-off village in Africa. What if you were born to a couple in Iraq or Iran. What if you were born to a Asian family in Japan.

Could you HONESTLY tell me that you would be raised as a Christian in that environment... or that you would somehow stumble upon Christianity along the way and "See the light."

I asked this question to a deacon at my church during Sunday school back when I was about 11 or 12 -- he just blew me off.

If someone wants to believe in their God, then so be it. I have no beefs with you -- that's your deal. I don't see too many other mainstream religions that can be as far-fetched as a guy who walks on water, heals the afflicted, makes blind people see, drops bread from the sky and turns water into wine.

I guess we all need to live in our own little world of religion, but I don't think we should be offended or surprised if someone else has their own "little world"

Although I might agree with you to a certain extent. This list hardly designates one as an atheist by agreeing with a lot of the points. I'm agnostic, and also believe that anyone who is 100% sure there is a god is as delusional as those who are 100% sure there isn't a god. That doesn't mean fundamentalists aren't a bain on our country - or that, IMO, they're part of the reason this country is getting worse all the time.

Technically, that still makes you an atheist/non theist. Agnostics actually care.

Most Atheists don't give a shit. But they get lumped in in some sort of attempt to label all Atheists as bad people.
