Atheistic zealots are almost as bad (and inane) as the religious ones.

Although I might agree with you to a certain extent. This list hardly designates one as an atheist by agreeing with a lot of the points. I'm agnostic, and also believe that anyone who is 100% sure there is a god is as delusional as those who are 100% sure there isn't a god. That doesn't mean fundamentalists aren't a bain on our country - or that, IMO, they're part of the reason this country is getting worse all the time.

I don't understand how you think fundamentalists are making this country worse-- I think you vastly overestimate their influence. Their influence in this nation has been gradually waning-- while zealots of other flavors (for instance, Gore and the great Global Warming scare) see their influence rise.

Perhaps its because I live in CO, where one of the primary fundamentalist Christian Organizations calls home (can't remember the name of it) and see their effects all the time. The museum errected in the south (forgot where) is a prime example. In the past 5-10 years, never has the fundamentalist group been so vocal. Saying there were no Dinosaurs and that the earth is 10k years old. Granted, you would think this would make there ignorance more noticeable but yet people are joining their ranks all the time. I did research on this last year.

I agree with you on the gore thing completely BTW. Global Warming was pretty much a sure thing IMO until I researched Gore's so called "research". Once the liberals all went crazy over it is when I started questioning it, but although it had that effect on me a lot of my liberal friends are now the new choir.

I'm not disagreeing with you; but statements such as those bolded make your argument extremely weak. If you see this all the time...then shouldn't you remember the who what where and why? Rants are much more effective with details!

we need details, links, 8x10 glossies with circles and arrows and detailed descriptions on the back of each describing what the circles and arrows mean, etc.

I'm sure everyone knows what museum I'm referring to, I'm not even going to bother looking it up..

As for the organization here in CO, I'm actually suprised I can't remember the name of it. I can't even remember the name of the lady who runs it, I just remember that its based out of Colorado Springs and (more so in 2007) she was constantly in the Denver newspapers blabbing about this or that. Seemed that a lot of people around here were supporting her too. She is one of the most vocal even on the national stage, on getting religion taught in schools. Geez I can't even remember what they call that now.

Maybe I purposely tried to block it all from my head, weird.

Focus on the Family is the one in Springs. I cringe everytime I pass the sign to the visitor center on the interstate

OP, thanks a lot for this! I actually grabbed the post and formatted it for a flier-sized item to put on my home wall in openoffice... and laughed when I saw christian was highlighted as a misspelled word by the default dictionary built into OOo.

Looks like you guys are in fantasyland considering you weren't even close where I lived making assumptions like that. C'mon, guess my race, age, profession, income, etc try to psychoanalyze me. You already can already deduce that I'm not a Mormon nor a Ohio redneck.

This is the thing that gets me.

People take Christianity as the end-all, be-all of religions and think that anyone else who worships a different God is going to hell, is a sinner, or otherwise just not worth anything.

My contention to this point has always been, what if you didn't grow up in the United States? What if you were born to parents in some far-off village in Africa. What if you were born to a couple in Iraq or Iran. What if you were born to a Asian family in Japan.

Could you HONESTLY tell me that you would be raised as a Christian in that environment... or that you would somehow stumble upon Christianity along the way and "See the light."

I asked this question to a deacon at my church during Sunday school back when I was about 11 or 12 -- he just blew me off.

If someone wants to believe in their God, then so be it. I have no beefs with you -- that's your deal. I don't see too many other mainstream religions that can be as far-fetched as a guy who walks on water, heals the afflicted, makes blind people see, drops bread from the sky and turns water into wine.

I guess we all need to live in our own little world of religion, but I don't think we should be offended or surprised if someone else has their own "little world"

See that's just sad a deacon should know the answer to that. That deacon is FTL. You should go tell him that.

He should be glad that it wasn't a Catholic Priest. That would give a whole new meaning to the last part of his sentence :p

Settle down Nancy, we were just having fun with you. Besides, Utah is pretty close to California. :D

Nope, I would have been fired long ago if that were the case.

Not one that wasn't locked IIRC.
