Top Ten Signs that You're a Christian

I'm a Christian and I thought some of these were pretty funny. Number 2 specifically.

People that are way off the deep end Christian believe that everything happens because God wants it to.

If someone lives through a tragedy, it's because God performed a miracle and saved him. But in that exact same tragedy if the person had died, they'd say that it was his time to go and God wanted to bring him home.

It's basically a cop out answer to everything to just say "God wanted it that way".

I'm always going back and forth about stuff like that.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects -- will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet you consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving".

You're a troll but I'll respond to one of these anyway.

Make a list of religions for me where the god of the religion will unconditionally accept people into it at an equal status regardless of their race, gender, or past history.

Yeah, I get a kick out of challenging some of my church friends when they say stupid crap like that.

I love how Christian bashing is so widely accepted on this forum. But if you were to crack a joke about Jews, you would be labeled a bigot/nazi.

I'm sorry, you're a douchebag. I am not a christian myself but I grew up in Catholic schools so I know a thing or two about at least the Catholic flavor of them. Evolution has long been accepted by the Catholic Church (the recent papal release is just a stronger wording of old church policy). The Catholics have long accepted other religions as valid, they do not for a minute believe that their's is the only path to God. It would be an error to say we believe everyone worships the same God, but it is closer to the truth than to say we reject all other religions. Catholic scientists have created some of the most central scientific theories of the day - most notably the Big Bang theory. Published by a Catholic priest. We are well aware of the atrocities committed by the Church of the dark ages, the political corruption it fell into in the past. As far as heaven and hell goes, it goes back to the idea that all (non-pyschotic (i.e scientology)) religions are equally valid paths to salvation. As to all christians prattling on about the will of God, I've only heard that a few times - every priest I know has put credit where credit is due - the free will of man.

It's the burden of the majority, of society that is

yeah right

#1 sign of a troll post: the OP doesn't post back in the thread for quite a while. A true troll likes to let things stew for a while. 😉

right OP? 😛

That's just not true. I've seen every kind of joke on these boards and they're generally all well received.

Bold is QFT.

Hey OP, you know what the Atheist came up with to counter the Big Bang theory, since is supported a beginning to the Universe (they didn't want to admit that this was possible). It was a bubble theory, that claimed as the Universe expanded, the space in between matter would spontaneously create matter out of thin air so that the Universe never had a beginning. It was mainly supported by extremist Atheists who did not want to support an idea that leaned toward a beginning of the universe. Both sides can be dogmatic and biased about their search for truth. Give it a rest, and really research your belief as well as others, instead of stating baseless claims just because you were offended by an extremist Christian early in your life. Talk about bias.

Why does anyone feel the need to bash any religion/belief, Christian or otherwise? Are you that insecure in your own beliefs? What's really funny is one of the popular bashing items is "You know your God is real, but you are confident everyone elses is false". Well, so are you. Are you confident that your own belief is correct but millions of religious people around the world are wrong?

--Not directed at the OP specifically, more at the the religion bashers.

Because we like to belittle others and dismiss them as idiots. It's fun. Try it some time. Oh wait, you just did.

It is called proselytizing and is highly encouraged and even mandatory in many religions. The religions started it, the athiests continue it.

T3h thread winnar! Your list describes the whack jobs, not the average Christian. Fortunately, it's alright to bash Christians nowadays, so you don't have to worry. 😉

And your troll is showing because the link that you jacked that from said top ten signs that you're a fundie, not just a Christian.

Don't mix up philosophies and religions - nihilists and followers of the Nietzsche school of thought would resent that, I'm sure.

Nihilism is a philosophy not a religion. Might as well say that Shintoism is a religion. Most Japanese people would say it is a cultural philosophy.

Neitzscheism is also a philosophy, and it is still pretty divisive.

Druidism has its base roots in Gaul and Britian, and was a ethno-centric religion.

Paganism is any religion that is not Judeo-Christian, so it does not validate a specific religion.

Most religions began or are very race or culture centric, except for Buddhism (mainly because it is a philosophy rather than a language) and Christianity. Hinduism falls under this category, too, but its main roots are still very ethno-centric.

I might add that because Christianity was one of the major religions that did not focus on race, it expanded its influence. Whether you believe that it comes from the divine or not, that is part of the reason it grew.

I really would agree that the original post does indeed carry some truth... but perhaps you dont understand: I'm ok with all that. You decided to dig something up that will never be burried and i've heard it all before. Its not funny, its not ironic its the honest truth. I'm not an extremist, i didnt take my bible to class nor do i take it to work with me, i dont bible "thump" but given the opportunity to carry my cross, i gladly will. I accept the fact that our beliefs differ in many ways. Thats the beauty of a relationship with "my" God. Its personal and i'm not forced to believe that the earth has been around only a few thousand years... i choose to. these are trivial things that dont matter to my beliefs.... The whole topic has so little to do with religion its rediculous. I dont believe hindus, muslims, daoists,... are right in their beliefs but i respect the culture from which they came... You could be courteous enough to do the same...

🙂 adwilk.

I feel the same way, but I am in a pissy mood, and I have run into the OPs kind of talk three times this work week already.

hah no, its because invalid beliefs should be put to the light. its not innocuous like belief in santa or the tooth fairy, people kill each other and try to legislate their beliefs because of religion.
