Dem's have failed to overcome republican obstructionism, and have failed at propoganda for their accomplishments.

That is what will cost them this election cycle.

I'm just hoping health insurance reform and banking reform will stand under (R) congress.

Again, this list is stupid.

Voter turnout proves point #4. There is simply no counter-argument. We haven't seen 60% turnout since the 60's.

I don't think apathy as in not turning out to vote, but apathy in the way of actually learning the candidates stand on issues. A lot of people don't even care what the candidate says as long as there is a (D) or a (R) in front of their name. Just look to Alvin Greene for a great example.

We're both wrong - the Senate was 50/50 in the 2001-2003 session. He had majority control after that until 2006. Prior to 2006, the Democrats had not controlled either house of Congress since the huge swing in the 1994 midterms.
the senate started 50/50 in 2001, giving republicans the majority when cheney's tie-break is considered. but the guy from vermont defected in may 2001. so you had 51 caucusing with the dems (i think the other guy from VT was a socialist so not a dem but he caucused with the dems for majority/leadership positions) and 49 with the reps.

I've found that the easiest way to quickly tell which party controled the Senate when is to look at the list of senate majority leaders.

Here's a link to the list, you can see it flipped back and forth a bit.

It doesn't even matter what that person stands for. They either vote along party lines or they're kicked out of the party. It really is that simple.

I know what top 5 GOP excuses are gonna be in 2012
1.O
2.B
3.A
4.M
5.A

Makes more sense than blaming someone who hasn't been President for 2 years and isn't running for any elected office or even really involved with the Republican party.

If Bush really was that bad...then why do Democrats use him as their measurement?

"He's not as bad as Bush." "At least he's not Bush." "Could be worse...he could be Bush"

I mean...I understand the Dem's saying that they aren't like Obama. That makes a ton of sense. But why do Dem's insist on comparing their guys to Bush???

One excuse missed on that list is "we need more time." 8 years from now and they will be still saying that. This is in response for the bail outs they need more time for them to work. rrrrrrriiiggghhhtttt

The Bush bailout you mean? Signed into law by Prez George.

What a pathetic waste of time. Everyone is bound to slip up a few times over the course of their term ... But... That wasn't even funny compared to bush where he fucked up at least 3-4 times a day. Hell, David Letterman did the top 10 bush fuckups every day...

I'm disappointed and even more so that they didn't even include one fuck up from Obama.

Oh well... About the only thing I miss from bush being president.

I miss the Bush mess ups badly. I really, really wish he would do some fundraising around here. Or...wait. Does he do any fundraising or speeches now?

Repubs can't repeal anything for two years, because Obama has the veto.

Bernie Sanders moved to the Senate from the House in 2007.

All you guys are such fail.

What party allowed outrageous unsustainable jacking in housing prices based on fraudulent appraisals, fraudulent loans, house for everyone policy, low interest rates and intentional hype? Both.

Offshoring our jobs for 20 years and replacing that income with debt at all levels, from you to the Fed? Both.

Is beholden to big 5 - Oil, pharma, Banking, MIC and insurance? Both.

We have two major problems in USA right now on everyone's mind, employment and debt, and guess what both understand to "fix" one you have to make the other worse.

I can't wait to see Bush and Cheney crawling back out of the woodwork with Rove in the middle holding hands with them, if or when the repubs take back control.

Those three will be a very good reminder of what to expect from the repubs.

So I guess the repub "plan" is to take back power, make the rich even richer still while plowing the Country right back into the dirt like they did up to 2008 and then drop that mess right back in the Dems lap, then obstruct, obstruct and obsrtuct some more, wash, rinse...blah blah blah.

Why is it I get the feeling this top ten "excuse" list is going to come back to haunt the righties sooner than later.

1. DEMS: I BLAME BUSH

Did Obama get us into two wars with no exit strategy? No.
As for the banking crisis, well, he did inherit it. Not that it's Bush's fault -- the Democrats wouldn't have seen it coming in time to regulate it, either.

2. DEMS: VOTERS ARE DUMB

They are. The Nascar Nation to the extreme, but that ain't saying the rest are Einsteins.
A politician can't get elected on a stance that he is technically proficient. The populace demands that he play to their baser emotions.
They don't want answers, they want to be fellated. Real answers mean dealing with reality's cold, hard truths -- that life is not a fairy tale, and to get anything there's always a trade-off. People are spoiled, and they don't want to hear this. They think that closing their eyes and ears to this and listening to the more pleasant sound of someone telling them that they can have everything at no cost to them if only they'll vote for them will magically make it all work out.

3. DEMS: OUTSIDE GROUPS INFLUENCING THE ELECTION

w/e

4. DEMS: VOTER APATHY

That's what you get when there's no solution but things working themselves out naturally, which is where the economy is. A solid recovery has been contingent on the appearance of a recovery (loosening one's wallet is an act of confidence), but the government's actions to fake out the people by dumping some money into the economy and making a big deal over it didn't work, and they can't afford to keep doing that to infinity. (It's all debt we have to pay back.)
Dems can't run on a platform that they'll fix everything through governent action because their base is generally smart enough to know that it's out of the government's hands.
Republicans, on the other hand, will probably be voting in record numbers.
"I reck'n things ain't right. I know! Guberment!"

5. DEMS: A SIMPLE COMMUNICATION PROBLEM

See 2.

6. DEMS: REPUBLICANS ARE OBSTRUCTIONISTS

Fox News: "Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed. Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed. Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed. Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed. Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed. Obama. Obama. Obama. Pelosi. Pelosi. Reed."

How much of that is positive? How much is even just the boring facts?
For a planet with 6.7 billion people on it over a land area of 57,000,000 square miles with over 300 cities of over a million population across nearly 200 countries, Fox "News" seems to spend a lot of time doing nothing but bashing three people.
And the Republicans have... not embraced this and instead have shown a great sense of bipartisanship and patriotism by working hand in hand with the Democratic majority to do the work of the People??
You try saying that with a straight face.

7. DEMS: “DESTRUCTIVE” MEDIA PROMOTING THEIR POINT OF VIEW

News is objective fact, not subjective commentary. Fox News is nothing but purely one-sided commentary, but because they're balls-to-the-wall about it and not apologetic in the least, it doesn't raise any red flags amongst the stupid emotional processors of the Nascar Nation, and so it gets passed off as fact.

8. DEMS: THE TEA PARTY

Tool of Fox News.

9. DEMS: EXPECTATIONS WERE ALWAYS TOO HIGH

See 2.
