I'm thinking the same. Some mode of transportation.

<< If enough people see the machine you won?t have to convince them to architect cities around it. It?ll just happen. >>

<< The core technology and its implementations? will, according to Kamen, ?have a big, broad impact not only on social institutions but some billion-dollar old-line companies.? And the invention will ?profoundly affect our environment and the way people live worldwide. It will be an alternative to products that are dirty, expensive, sometimes dangerous and often frustrating, especially for people in the cities.? >>

<< . The invention will also likely require ?meeting with city planners, regulators, legislators, large commercial companies and university presidents about how cities, companies and campuses can be retro-fitted for Ginger.? >>

<< Kamen?s most recent invention is the iBot, an off-road wheelchair that can climb stairs, cover sand and gravel and rise to balance on two wheels. >>

It is a personal transportation device, vaguely similar to a jet-pack, although it probably uses a large propeller, kind of like a personal helicopter, or a huge "propeller cap" that geeks wear, and it flies you around. Basically you strap it on like a jetpack, then the propeller unfurls, and you fly around in it.

The tip-off is that the inventor "is a big aviation fan" who flies to work in a helicopter. Bezos found IT to be funny when he first saw it.

If you read the article with the personal-propeller in mind, it will all make sense.

it has to be teleportation. how can a jet pack or a properal pack be more more revolutionary. it oculd be some sort of super-efficient fuel cell or anti-gravity device too.

Reading the article seems to hint that it will be some sort of Individual Transport (educated guess :p ) but that it will be powered by some new environmental energy source. The fact that it it expected to proliferate society to such an extent seems to indicate that it may be self-piloting.

it can't be teleportation, your cells would disintegrate and the process of "reviving" them at another location is impossible.

I'm thinking personal scooter type hover device.

"It will be an alternative to products that are dirty, expensive, sometimes dangerous and often frustrating, especially for people in the cities."

Means: "It will be an alternative to cars, especially in cities." No more parking problems. People will "design cities around it" such as having the "parking" on the roof. It will "go against current [avation] regulations" (such as flying in city space), but they will change.

Propeller heads unite! The Geeks have won!

The billion dollar industry mentioned could be the car industry. Just a guess...

Could it be "AI" Artificial Intelligence(sp?) ? That would change the world.

I dunno, unless it uses some really revolutionary fuel source, is fast, and safe... it might just be more of that "revolutionary" rhetoric that we're used to from companies.

Anyways, I'm hoping it really is something bigger than the WWW (geez, that'd deserve a clap in itself :)

But they assembled it with tools and it will replace something "dirty and sometimes dangerous." How could you assemble AI with tools and what would it replace (besides humans :p)

I'd say its 90% probable that it is a kind of transportation.

He assembled two of them in 10 minutes. Whatever it is either really simple, or easily broken down.

Hoax :p

If this is for real it has to be some type of transportation.

Consists of two parts, a suit and a puppet. Put on the
suit and the puppet on the other side mimics your
actions. Stereo vision and and sound are transmitted
back.
These puppets could be available everywhere.
IT will allow you be anywhere without having to leave
your preferred environment.
The difference with any thing we know so far is that IT
will allow you to have physicial interaction with your
remote environment.
