It is a personal transportation device, vaguely similar to a jet-pack, although it probably uses a large propeller, kind of like a personal helicopter, or a huge &quot;propeller cap&quot; that geeks wear, and it flies you around. Basically you strap it on like a jetpack, then the propeller unfurls, and you fly around in it.

The tip-off is that the inventor &quot;is a big aviation fan&quot; who flies to work in a helicopter. Bezos found IT to be funny when he first saw it.

If you read the article with the personal-propeller in mind, it will all make sense.

Reading the article seems to hint that it will be some sort of Individual Transport (educated guess ) but that it will be powered by some new environmental energy source. The fact that it it expected to proliferate society to such an extent seems to indicate that it may be self-piloting.
