Top Secret Clearance / DUI question

If a person has a TS/SCI clearance, will a DUI conviction cause that to be revoked even though their record is otherwise clean?

Sounds possible. DUI conviction might put them into a high risk category, and may jeopardize their clearance, especially if it's with SCI.

One of my professors worked for the Senate Select COmmittee on Intelience, and worked in the CIA high up. He said the CIA avoided men who had drinking problems...

I'd hope so. Drunk men = wont shut up. Wake up the next morning... hmm, did I give away our countries secrets last night? Oh well.

Hehe, the CIA might but that doesn't mean you can't become president. Look at GWB, he has a DUI or two. 😉

A DUI will not necessarily kill a TS/SCI, but it sure won't help. You may want to call your organization's or base's Security Manager and ask this as a hypothetical question (though I gather it actually happened to you or a close friend).

True. In all fairness, though, Cheney has two, which makes for 3 more between them than one would really expect to see on a Pres/VP ticket.

I don't know for sure if they will revoke your clearence.

However, a DUI is not going to go over well on your 5 year review.
And it may cause that review to come about sooner. There is a good
chance that it will cause the DSS to look at whether or not you have
a problem with alcohol.

The only reason I would think that you might not get it immediately
suspended is that, one security violation (minor, not locking a safe)
doesn't revoke a TS. It causes problems and you can lose privledges,
but not revoking clearence.

My guess is that if someone got a DUI, the hardest part is going to be
explaining what happened to the DSS Agent at the next review. Because
they will want to know.

I don't think it will.
Our Security Manager got one and he kept his TS/SCI.
People are going to make mistakes and i think they look
more at if you take responsibility for and correct you problems.
In his case his drinking days are over until he retires.

From my friend in the know:

it is possible
if they tried to hide it
and it got found out (which it would)
then you'd probably lose it.
but if you reported to security
and the investigators looked into it
not necessarily
