talk about feeding yourself for a month, geez. What about the indigestion that ensues from eating such a starchy and fatty diet. Bring on the meat and cheese.
Meat and cheese and beer. take me to el farolito for fat al pastor burrito!
I'd rather die from eating good food than subsisting on ramen. Yukk. Well, unless it was the Korean variety.

Ok... time for me to add to this thread... been looking at it for days and cracking up like crazy.

Anyway, my reply is pretty serious. MSG (mono sodium glucomate?) not sure if that's what it stands for. But I heard that in recent studies, they found out that it's not bad for you... again, it's not a definate. I heard that MSG was just something that resembles a crystal that sort of expands your taste buds so you can taste more of what you are eating.

In addition, yes it's true, MSG is in all food that comes from Chinese restaurants (the fast food ones). How do I know? Because my dad runs a Chinese restaurant supply distribution company, and they all order MSG. They just tell my dad's workers to rip off the labels. So when you see them restaurants getting their deliveries, watch for an unlabeled can.

On another note, how does milk and cereal compare to ramen in terms of bang for the buck? Since I got off the meal plan, milk and cereal is perhaps 85% of my diet right now. Let's see, around $2.25 for a container of milk, and $2.00 for a box of cereal (only get it when it's on sale, which is every week). The two of them probably makes... let's see... 10 bowls? Maybe more... so, it's around .40 cents per bowl. The best thing is that it's fast as hell! Pour cereal into bowl, pour milk into bowl. Kick ass! And another plus is that it's healthier than ramen...

This thread just won't die........So with that said. Top Ramen is just fine. Chicken is the best and if you want it to be better throw a bullion cube in with it. Delicious........

How to make ramen KillaBee style. Keep in mind that I always eat two packs each time since one just doesn't get me full.

1.) Boil enough water to cook two pack of noodles.
2.) Put noodles in water and let boil until noodles are soft enough to break up square. Noodles will not be fully cooked at this point
3.) Pour out most of the water. Leave enough to barely cover noodles.
4.) Pour in seasoning packets and cook until noodles are done. Seasoning will really soak into the noodles make them oh so good.
5.) Lick inside of seasoning packets to get all the good stuff...yummmm.
6.) Eat noodles and drink all the soup!
7.) Wait 20 minutes and drink two big glasses of water so you don't shrivel up. I'm serious!

This is how I used to cook ramen back in the day. Don't eat much ramen anymore and when I do, I try to use a little more water after adding the seasoning. Don't drink the soup anymore either. That stuff is deadly. Even brine shrimp wouldn't survive.

How much money do those tv infomercials ask for to feed starving children? Damn, with ramen you could feed them for 20 cents a day.

hehehe, I just saw some TV news show talking about people that are allergic to MSG and how hard it is for them to shop in the grocery store because MSG is in soooo many foods, and how resteraunts and especially fast food places put allot of MSG in the food (mcdonalds).

They did a taste test, one bowl of some sort of fried rice with MSG, and another bowl without MSG...of course the people immediatly knew which rice had the MSG in it, because it was the one that had allot of taste :p

if you know how to cook decently you can make some good non msg fried rice. Its real easy too, even a compsci major like me can do it. You'll have to use that new watery non-MSG soy sauce, just make sure you put some salt and pepper in the rice, with eggs, and some pre-fried bacon, some chopped ham possibly some peeled shrimp if you can afford it, some butter, some carrots. MMMMM good. Cheap too. (well except the optional shrimp)

damn kingink... you know what el farolito is? that is the best mexican food (hole in the wall, no offence) i've ever been to. my friend took me there saying that the diabla sauce is unforgettable, and boy do i miss it. can't wait til i go back down south (up in nor cal) for some of that.

if you guys want "cha chiang mein" style noodles, then get a pack of noodles (preferably shin ramen) and:

1) boil a very minimal amount of water or enough to cook the noodles
2) cook the noodles til it's almost soft enough to eat
3) pour out most of the water, leaving very little left
4) add the soup base and cook the noodles til the bottom of the pot becomes "charred" (i know this will cause a mess, but hey, it's worth it, trust me)
5) all the soup should be soaked into the noodles and you have "fried" noodles that is very similar to eating "cha chiang mein" (if you're korean or have eaten some korean-style chinese food, then you know what this is)

it's good... TRY IT!!! :)

yikes, i read the packaging on one of those ramen noodles and it says that it's at least TWO servings per bag, and the fat content is 26% daily allowance per serving!
so, you could eat 2 of those a day and nothing else and still gain weight hehe.

If you rinse your ramen noodles in a collander after boiling them, it will significantly reduce the fat content. use new hot water for the flavor packet!

hehehe:

here's the story behind MSG.

A japanese scientist one day came home and found that the soup that his wife made for his was suprisingly delicious. He took it to his lab and then analyzed each of the soup's indredients (there were only 4). he found that SEAWEES contained the chemical called MSG that made food suprisingly delicious. He then started a company that made concentrated MSG. This was in the 1890's.

MSG works because it mimics the taste of a animal protein found in meat. humans have evolved to appreciate meat and its flavor. that why we like msg because our taste buds thinks its meat.

My friend tells me this. It could be a total myth but I believe him...I think.

MSG is a naturally occurring substance found in blood and sharks look for it when they go huntin'. So if you eat a lot of msg you better watch out the next time you go into the ocean with any open cuts.

I finally broke down and read this thread. Damn, this is the funniest sh!t ever!

Have you guys ever eaten Sapporo Ichiban brand "Yakisoba"? They translate it in English as "Japanese Style Noodles-Chowmein". It's the yummiest of any instant noodle out there, IMO.

Which is better? The "Instant Noodle" cups or the ones that come in the little bags that have to be boiled in the pot?

I am considering stocking up for the winter. :)
