Vpham97: The wet vac would rust your car if you didn't let it dry... As long as the it is warm it should dry just fine... Just make sure the windows are open a crack at least and all that...

Add a couple drops of sesame oil to give it some more flavor. And some egg, corn, bok choy. Also, go with Nissin brand unless you have access to the Hong Kong and Japanese brands.
You think rite aid would pricematch with albertson's?

~$1 to feed a college apartment of 4.
Vermicelli Recipes.
Boil a bag Vermicelli noodles($.50) Get the new instant Vermicelli kind, it tastes just like freshly made Vermicelli.
Brown some ground meat(ground turkey, hamburger meat, venison) like you would if you were going to make the little meat for spaghetti.(.50 Cents a pound on sell.)
Shred some cucumber, lettuce, jalapeno or cayene pepper, carrot if you have any left in your fridge. If not, go bum your neighbor.
Mix some sauce and put it on top.
Enough to feed 3-4 peoples. Only cost ~$1, and are actually more nutrious(protein for those muscles.) than ramen.

If you have more money, top your vermicelli off w/ thin slice of barbecued meat instead of the ground meat. Crush some peanut, put it on top. Go to the oriental store to buy some fresh herb(mint, catmint, cilantro, bean sprout) for about $.30 cent a bunch($.30 for a big bunch of fresh herb from the Asian stores vs. $1.99 for a shrivel up little bunch from the american store.

Spring Roll Recipe.
Same ingredient & preparation as above, accept get some spring roll skin($.50-$1). Under the faucet, run water over the skin real quick. Put it in a plate of ~10-15 skin to let it sit for ~3-4 min. Then just roll a big joint for yourself and enjoy it over a sauce(peanut, fish sauce.) Maybe, get some shrimp from the store if you have the extra dough.

cmv: I am not going to try to wet vacuum to clean the kimchee spill. I remember taking the little carpet shag out, soap it up, then spray it w/ a garden hose for about an hour and it still stink. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
This has turn out to be a pretty good thread, I think it should belong to those woman on mytampon though.

At least, my mom won't have to worry about my future wife not being able to cook, as long as she can wash the dish, I'll do the cooking. But first, I'll have to get rid of that smell b4 I can take a girl out. The frustration is building. :p

MSG:

Hey, I was working with this Phillipian guy and he said that soy sauce is basically MSG (he didn't say it in a joking manner either). So is that true? I don't think so but hey... Thought I'd ask... Vogue had a really really good article on MSG a while back (basically saying the complaints like head ache are a myth).

Just curious.

Boy, I can't believe there are so many of my species here. I was a little ashamed of my eating habits, but not anymore. I must eaten like, a ton of that maruchen ramen stuff by now. I buy that 36 pack from Costco like, every month. That's the easiest thing to make. And I am very grateful to the guy who posted that link to the site containing Ramen Recipes,i added a few more bytes to my 'Ramen Repertoire'. You guys ROCK.

I swear to God, who the hell invented/created MSG? Or does it come naturally from dehydrating that nasty smelling fish sauce?

I'm chinese and god I hate the smell of fish sauce. The vietnamese people I know love this stuff... yuk!

I try to be open-minded about other people's diet.

Remember "One man's trash is another man's treasure".

My roomate eats butter and cheese every meal. I mean A LOT. AND he thinks he has a refined taste. It's mind-boggling.

I don't think soy sauce itself contains MSG. My understanding is that soy sauce is made of fermented soy product. I don't see where MSG comes from. However, the manufacturer can add MSG to soy sauce to enhance the flavor (they think).

MSG, an element from a Japanese plant used to flavor foods. Some bright person decided to extract just the MSG from the plant thus losing the plant's balancing of the MSG which is why it's bad for your body.

Ya, when it's light, and way watered down, add some fresh squeezed lemon juice and hot sauce, you can still taste/smell it but it's safe for human consumption.

Anyone know of the way or method they make fish sauce?

PHO kick A$$. At least at this Vietnamese place next to my old house in Seattle. WOW! the place was packed 24/7 and the PHO's ruled :)

It has been almost 15 years since college but get some frozen veggies for it. The cheapo type and add em to your RAMEN while boiling and yeah baby!!! Great dinner... I took so many "chicks" out for dinner (and ended up in my apt) and they all loved it (I think). And they showed it(I remember it). Oh yeah they did showed it. Even better add some beef broth to it. They'll think that you have been coooooooking all day long for em!!!!. I am not kidding you ;) "Me lova you for long time" (J/K) after eating the "beefed up RAMEN w/ broth and veggies"!

And after that healthy meal you can take em out to the local pub for .25 cent brewskys and free "Wicken Chins" (inside joke and easy to fig out too) :D

BTW the best way to keep a balance diet while in college (and stay regular too)

Hope this helps,

Stout

dude,
To prepare Fish sauce for consumption.
2 small gloves Garlic, sliced, diced, finely chopped.
1 Teaspoon Ground Chilli Paste
1 Fresh Thai bird chilli, chopped
1/4 cup fish sauce
2/3 cup hot water
2 Tablespoons Fresh Lime Juice w/ pulp(Use a small spoon to dig the pulp out & put it into your sauce.)This is a necessary step.
1/4 cup sugar.
2 Tablespoons Shredded Carrots for Garnish.

Place garlic, chilli paste, and chilli in a mortar. With a pest, pound into a a paste. If you don't have a mortar and pestle, finely mince the garlic & chilli(or just press down on them w/ a big knife & they will flatten out as well.)
Combine the garlic mixture w/ the remaining ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Stir until the sugar has dissolved. Float the carror slivers on top.

This is how you can surprises your mom by being able to make better fish sauce than her's.

Way off topic - should be moved to OT forum
Good PHO can be made without MSG or at least minute quantities - by increasing other ingredients- Beef bones/ brisket for stock or more cinnamon, ginger, onion or star anise or substitution w/an artificial sweetener(however the BEst or Traditional recipes Do include it)

MSG is basically just a flavor enhancer/preservative- MAny restaurants use it because it is a cheap and quick way to flavor foods - often purchased in >50 lbs bags -
It is an actual chemical toxin but falls underneath the FDA guidelines as "generally safe" to consume in moderate quantities
MSG ? Monosodium Glutamate is manufactured by corynebacterium glutamicum,
a cousin of diptheria germ
Can cause chest pain, burning sensation, face blowing up
