Top or side 120mm exhaust fan?

Im getting ready to mod my case, and am trying to decide where is the best place to put the fans. I think I will put the intake fan on the side panel so it blows half over and half under the video card. I am trying to decide if I should put the exhaust fan on the side panel, parallel to the cpu so it sucks air away from the hs/f, or should I try to put the exhaust fan on the top of my case? If I put it on the top, I will either have about 1mm of room between the sides of the fan and the psu and cd-rom, or I can move the cd-rom down one spot. Please let me know what would be the most effecient way to do this. TIA

I have two Modded cases, one with the exhaust on the side panel above the CPU, and the other in the top of the case. It has been my experience that having the exhaust in the top is the best option. It doesnt disrupt airflow as much. Also, I would keep the CD drive as it is and just have the blowhole make do with 1mm of room.

What you want is a good idea. Not only will it blow cool air over the video card, but it will also circulate cool air around the northbridge and CPU area. I think its a good idea.
