Don't mind the prices.. They're from a store here in London, Canada.....

What do you think... any changes?

AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4800+ SOCKET 939 $1,157.60
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 SLI $219
Corsair TWINX2048 3200PRO 2GB w/Leds $434.97
BFG GF 7800GTX OC 256MB GDDR3 SLI-Ready $699
Seagate 200GB 7200RPM w/8MB cache $133
Seagate 200GB 7200RPM w/8MB cache $133
Zalman Reserator 1 Plus $326
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 $164
Thermaltake Black Tsunami Window $153
OCZ ModStream 520W PSU $129
Logitech Cordless Desktop LX700 $89
SyncMaster 930BF 19" (Black) 4ms $495

I got a question I have to ask you a little off topic Phreaky. I have the exact same setup that you do, except with a TT Tsunami, and a Enermax 420W PSU. It funny that you posted this thread right now, because I just started to look into trying to OC my CPU to 3.04 Ghz. somehow. Wanted to get that done by the end of the week. (Just wanted to use up my Kingston 400 DDR, and to do that CPU must be 3.04 Ghz -- 160 Mhz x 19 w/ memory divider of 2.5).

How much voltage did you pump in to the CPU? Also, how much of a temp increase did you notice? Are you using stock Intel cooling for CPU?

I actually used stock cooler (new one with copper core) to cool it for a while, when it was clocked.. Im not sure how high the core was, I just selected a random number from bios.. I thin it was about 1.75.... I threw on an Aeroflow and it's idle at around 36-38 I havent ran any tests with the new fan since I just got it this afternoon, but When I had my stock, playing FS2004 and far cry, it'd hit up probably max 62... which is high, but it WAS a stock fan... Now it seems to idle much less, so I'l get lower numbers probably.. I tried getting it to 3.4, and 3.2 but got BSOD... not sure maybe overheating, memory problems, etc. It booted fine, but windows F'ed up.

so basically, it should run perfectly find with stock (copper core) hs/f cranked to 1.75V and 160 MHz. happy OCing, and if you cranker over 3.1, lemme know what you did. I want to see how high I can go without fryin'er

Mikey

Ok thanks! Will give it a try. If it doesn't go past at least 2.8, then I will have to get a Vantec or somethin'.

Raptors too noisy, I want to make it quiet, (hence the reserator). SLI is possibly for the future, but for now, they dont need to spend 700 bucks for a small increase in performance that they definately WILL NOT notice. As said again, display was a temporary, not included anymore.... and what WAtercooling KIT do you recommend? I was looking at the PC2-601BW Koolance built into case... but I read reviews and they said it has leaking problems... I want something safe, and secure for the next 5 years.... or so....

My Raptor isn't noisy at all.

And by the looks of that computer, your motherboard and video card fan are going to drown out any noise the Raptor might make.

Top of the line...get the Raptor. Might be 2-3% difference, but if money is no object...

EDIT: wrong...does watercooling replace the fans on everything? Raptors are still the way to go, specially for bootup times.

I'll think about throwing the Raptors in... see how big of a price difference there is. Also, what do you ppl think about a Thermaltake Silent 560W w/ Active PFC instead of the modstream.. I like the modstream but I have it so I want to give em something new.... its only 10 bucks more to upgrade...

EDIT: Nevermind, Price difference is HUGE plus they'll say 'I spent 400+ on hard drives and only have 140 GB'.. They want LOTS of space.. why?... Bragging rights? No idea, but that's what is requested of me...

Also, if your friend doesn't have a router and a good antivirus suite, then the job ain't done ;)

I highly doubt I can find that sold in London. I'll see what I can do though, thanks for the tip..... Yes he does have a router and I'll hook him up with Free AVG... works and cheap....

From the look of this you're buying from Canada Computer, I noticed they have a store on Princess st. CC have great prices for Canada, but they are generally about 4 months behind what they have available in the US. Too bad you can't get that mobo now. I'd ask them when they think they're getting it. They're pretty tight with ASUS, at least they are in Toronto. Just wondering why you didn't pick out one of the new Creative X-fi cards, they're so much more advanced than integrated mobo cards out right now.

If they get some new speakers, I'll get em the 5500 digitals, and throw in the X-Fi card....And no im not getting from canada computer, im getting it from some azn guy in downtown london.. runs a small store, but cheap as hell, I love the store.... I actually purchased my first computer at Canada Computer....

if you are gonna build a ultra-high end system, raptors are a must. An enlarged e-penis is incomplete without one.

wow, cheaper than CC?? that's amazing, maybe I should go visit.

On the XFI you should have a look at the tech. From what I understand with normal headphones you can simulate 5.1 sound. Not sure but you may be able to with 2 good speakers as well if they're placed correctly

I knew someone would say that... "It's good, but it can be better''... Things can always be better.. wait 2 months and this stuff will be useless....

I think though that we can all agree than anybody who would be unhappy in recieving such a computer deserves to get their head examined. Not knowing Canadian prices, I'm assuming you are getting a decent deal for the parts to begin with, or at least arn't spending your own money.

I'd go with the A8N32 if you can find it just to be future proof if you're going to get the best.

Whatever you do, don't get the OCZ Modstream.

I looked many reviews before getting mine, & it almost always got praise.

Then mine died after less than 5 months of use. The tech at the store i bought it from actually felt sorry enough for me, since he'd seen so of the Modstreams get returned due to failure he actually didn't even RMA it, he just gave me a new one, even though i'd had it for 4+ months.

Get a Seasonic of PCP&P.

well, if you REALLY dont mind those prices, and short of robbing the store, most people would, then you might want to get a psu from turbo-cool, like the 510 deluxe, ($220) to really power all of those components.

You mean PCP&Power Cooling right? I would strongly suggest against one becuase you can get the same perfomance and nearly as good of quality for half the price.

and where is this??? there is no equal to their Turbo-Cool 850 SSI, i mean, sure its $469, but it is top of the line...... and peak is 950+ watt on that, i mean, that is ALOT of power.

the ram price is way too high, id go down to cheaper (still 2GB with good timings) memory and change the graphics to 2x 7800GT for the same money.

A lot more gaming performance for the same price.
