Love Usual Suspects. Problem with these type movies is it's hard to watch them twice once you know the ending.

It was actually pretty obvious how it was going to end in the first place anyway so....

A lot of movies that claim they have these "twists" I have the ending pegged by halfway through or sooner.

Well, "The Mist" is a pretty crappy movie with a really depressing twist at the end that same might like.

I do have to agree with OdiN though, I had never even heard of The Usual Suspects when I first saw it and though the ending was pretty obvious by about halfway through.

Which leads to the other big problem with seeing a movie with a big twist which is that if you have heard of the movie before then you have probably heard it has a huge twist at the end which can easily spoil it for you. The usual suspects was so great because as it went on i was going on the twist slowly became more and more clear, but if you already know there is one then its not nearly as fun since it always because obvious pretty quick.

They say that they added that ending to The Mist because test audiences didn't like being left without knowing exactly what happened and needed some sort of blatant, hit you over the head ending.

I think that's stupid and it would have stood better without the altered ending.

Return of the Jedi... who knew they were bro and sis?

On that note, Empire Strikes Back. One of the biggest movie bombs dropped ever was "I am your father...."

Is it really a bomb if everyone already knows?

Ummm at the time NOBODY knew. It was a BOMB when it was dropped. One of the biggest in movie history

Even the actors themselves didn't know. When they were shooting the scene Mark Hamill was told the line was "Obiwan killed your father". Only James Earl Jones and a few select others knew the truth. It wasn't revealed until the movie premiered.

Oh... And I'll thrown in Unbreakable. Or pretty much any Shyamalan movie.

The short story that it was based on had an ambiguous ending. But that sort of thing plays a lot better in a collection of stories than it does in a movie theater. Bad endings = bad box office.

No love for Psycho?

And it's not exactly a plot twist, but the final line to Some Like It Hot is the greatest of all time... especially for 1959.

Lynch:
Mulholland Dr
Lost Highway
Inland Empire (not just a twist ending exactly, the whole movie is twisted)

Other:
Dot the I
The Hole
Finder's Fee
The Nines
Killing Zoe
Frailty
11:14
Spider
The Jacket
Primer
Stay
Sex and Lucia

and

The Passion of the Christ (jk)

If it's not plainly obvious, these sort of movies are my favorite to watch and I have seen a lot of them 🙂

Oldboy

Infernal Affairs (The film "The Departed" is based on)

Planet of the Apes

12 Monkeys

Open Your Eyes (The film "Vanilla Sky" was based on)

Dark City
