Doood. I'd so go see this.

On a side note, I didn't realize it but I had never seen Top Gun except on TV airings of the movie. I watched it on Netflix a couple weeks ago and they really censored out a lot of funny shit. The rubber dog shit thing wasn't in there, the part when he's talking about the Mig in class and giving him the middle finger is somewhat chopped out too. It's like seeing new parts of the movie for the first time.

That was the perfect opportunity to justify watching the Blu-Ray.

We don't have ourselves to blame. I blame everyone else.
Well, it's more of a collective we. I haven't seen GI Joe, Transformers, Karate Kid, or the A-Team so I'm not directly supporting 80's remakes.

Top Gun made me want a sportbike SO BAD it hurt.

I didn't get one until 2008 and I couldn't get Top Gun tunes out of my head the whole time I was riding it 600 miles home from the dealer. :) Some dreams never die.

Anyway, the 4:3 version of the "fist-pump runway ride-by" shows that it's on a towed trailer with tie-down straps running through his GPZ-900's front wheel. His fist is out of the frame on the 16:9 version. Though the movie was framed for 16:9, Tom Cruise improvised at that part. I guess if you aren't really riding, you can concentrate on over-acting! ;) They opened up the framing for the TV and video 4:3 versions and everyone thought that it was an error when the theatrical aspect copies started showing up in high def. When it comes to pleasing movie fans, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. *shrug*

I can stomach this sequel more than a remake, but jesus h. christ in a handbasket, can't we just let old awesome movies rest in peace?

What exactly is the plot of this suckfest going to be?

Maverick is a Top Gun instructor and comes across another hotheaded kid just like himself and eventually teaches him to reign in his rebelliousness in the name of teamwork and friendship? Ultimately, the kid's transformation will probably allow him to finally nail the hot chick in the classroom, whom he shunned earlier in the film, all set among a backdrop of this kid being the outcast from the rest of the flight group?

And let me guess, their mission will involve attacking Iranian planes or something flying in to take out an American carrier group stationed in the Persian Gulf.

The kid will be played by shia labeouf and at the end they'll be some corny line about how HE'S the teacher now.

...

If I'm even close to right, kill myself.

I'm calling this one!

I played this game a lot and had the carrier landings and air refuelings down pat. After that I saved up enough money for a Sega master system and F-16 Fighting Falcon which was ages a head of Topgun. You actually had to use both controllers to fly so I learned to operate one with my feet lol.

Of course all those went in the trash when I got a 33mhz 486 just in time for the release of Falcon 3.0.

I'm guessing you didn't even read the description of that film and assumed it was a remake just because it has the same name. What's funny is that they're not even spelled the same way.

Inglourious Basterds - 2009

The Inglorious Bastards - 1978

Set in Europe during WWII, a group of American soldiers are in the process of being shipped off to military prison for a variety of infractions, ranging from desertion to murder. While they're being transported, a German artillery attack hits the convoy, killing the MPs and enabling four of the prisoners to escape. The group decides their best bet is to head to neutral Switzerland where they can avoid the fighting and prison. As they make their way to what they think will be freedom, they end up volunteering for a commando mission to steal a V2 warhead for the French Underground. Somehow, the team must sneak into the most heavily guarded base in German territory, steal the Nazi's most precious military hardware, and bring it back to the allies without getting arrested again by their own side.
