Anyone in particular you're having trouble with?

Nah, they're just making references to peoples names that I've never heard... or even the celeb in 6x1 I had no clue who he was.

they had lionel richie. but yea the "celebs" they have on are generally unknown in america. its kinda funny actually:) its nice to peek into other countries so i guess thats why the segments where they complain about their government policies and such are also funny.

and yea fifth gear is just a notch lower on the quality scale. its more of the regular low budget car review show feel. the presenters just don't have the charisma or personality that top gear has. they've increased it to one hour now, it seems they want part of that top gear pie heh. so while its not good compared to topgear, its basically the only alternative we have when theres no top gear on. us shows suck worse. so fifth gear has a place i guess.

bbc shows do seem to have more access to popular/film music than american tv. i guess liscencing fees much be less.

And the new episodes start when??? End of the October usually??

or beginning of sept. check the BBC website.

and i was watching fifth gear yesterday... yes tiff, vicki, and even jason's driving will probably own any of them in topgear (except stig), but yeah topgear is a lot funnier.

another instance of humor > substance.

Meh.

Fifth Gear's driving usually involves seeing who can hold a power slide around a corner the longest. Yeah, great, that really tests all aspects of the car, well done guys.

I'm sorry, but it really is the poor-man's Top Gear. It's for people who don't like, or disagree with, Jeremy Clarkson. The Top Gear presenters are every bit as good drivers as the Fifth Gear guys, and they don't have hugely annoying personality traits. i.e. Tiff's awful way of talking (listen to the pitch of his voice throughout a sentance), Vicky's "giggly-girly" presenting style ...

The only guy I like on that is the third presenter. I forget his name, but he's an ex-BTCC driver, and he's very likeable, as well as being an excellent driver.

Plus, Fifth Gear don't have the same features that Top Gear manage to come up with. The best thing they've done so far was to see how a car reacts when hitting a specially-designed lamp-post. Whoo. Yay.

Oh, and the white-haired John guy that occasionally shoves his ugly mug in front of the camera from time-to-time is an arse. "Computer" is not pronounced "comm......pyoooooter", retard.

but remember it's a car show, and as much as i love topgear, it's just somehow ironic that richard, james, and clarkson don't know how to drive fast. (seen clarkson's "hot metal"? the camera cuts in and out to make it look like clarkson was doing the driving, but it was actually jaguar's test driver)

but yeah overall, TG> 5G. it's just that i hope someone else besides the stig can drive a car fast. and as for holding power slides, IIRC clarkson was the one who's constantly bragging on his show over richard.

Why do you assume that their greater driving skill equates to more substance?

If I'm watching to see how much I'd like a new car, wouldn't I want a review from someone whose driving skill is similar to mine?

whatever floats your boat. i'd rather see them drive an M5 around a track than a hyundai accent, so i want to see them push the cars hard.

top gear isn't the most informative show ever : but it's definatley entertaining enough. Plus it's fun to see them mess around with the cars and then "hrmm.. here stig.. drive it around" :p
