Is the black stig really dead? Or did he just quit so they could fake his death?

I just got done watching the video of the stig driving his car off the end of British Aircraft carrier and in to the Sea off the coast of Portigual, where the water is 4 miles deep. I am horrified to see such a thing happen and I do feel a bit of sadness to see that happen in the name of entertainment.

I know they have a new stig now, but did the old one really get killed?

Can some one provided me with some new articles or more details on his family?

UPDATE: Video Has been uploaded http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3347IR4C

He's fine. He published a book. IIRC he left because he was trying to relaunch his racing career.

What date did this ep originally air? I'm trying to find some proof that I think I saw the first time around.

It was linked in the Top Gear Discussion Thread a few weeks (maybe a month or two) back.

I don't have a date but they are Testing the BMW M3 CSL on this show and a Volvo is jumping over caravans (travel trailers). It is a 173 MB File, too large to email. Does any one know of some good FTP hosting that will allow me to post this?

Very slow, but they'll let you do 250 mb or 1 gb files respectively: http://www.megaupload.com/, http://www.yousendit.com/

I've got it. And that's the best of season 2 or something, not an actual ep.

If you watch carefully when the jag actually goes off the deck you can tell that

A) It's not the same cut (when they cut away from the actual run, the jag is about 3 feet from stopped)
B) They're using the steam catapault
C) The windows on the car are now tinted so you can't see inside

It's going to take 1hr 40 min via a cable connection with 6 mb/s down and 384k up. I will upload it to both sites in case one shuts down for too much bandwith usage.

No, but careless accidents do happen.

Yes, but careless accidents involving the car being mistakenly hooked to the catapault on an aircraft carrier?

... Did you watch the video? The Jag is about || far from dead stop when they cut away and go to the "flying off" shot, but still has || much runway left. And then when they cut to the jag flying off, it's windows are magically tinted and the steam exhaust in plainly visible.

I was thinking of that when I saw the video, but was not 100% sure of what kind of material the white cloud was made from(Smoke, Steam, CS Gas, etc). It could have been smoke fromt the tires.

"Perry started up a successful Internet sports betting business in 2000, and has also ventured into the world of television, working for Sky TV, Eurosport, the BBC and Channel 4 as both a commentator and a presenter. In 2002 he was actually co-presenter with Damon Hill of the Sky TV digital F1 coverage - a shame it was such a boring season of F1! And for the past two years he has been the mysterious character 'The Stig' on BBC's Top Gear program, the identity of whom baffled many viewers for a long time."
