The VXR8 and the Camaro share the same platform, and that's about it. The Camaro is smaller all the way around and about 250lbs lighter in its heaviest configuration. They don't share the same V8 either. The VXR8 uses an LS2 I believe, while the US G8 has an L98 which is based off the same block but has DOD. The Camaro SS uses an LS3 slightly detuned from the C6 specs still giving it a power advantage over the VXR8.

It didn't make an appearance in the Top Gear trailer for this series, so I would not expect to see it.

In Australia, there have been oodles and oodles of variants of the Monaro, at least one of which has had an LS3 in it.

And the LS2 and detuned LS3 are very, very similar engines.

Top Gear doesn't test Holdens. The VXR8 they tested was an LS2 based engine. The Pontiac G8 GXP scheduled for release here early next year is an LS3 based model severely detuned to LS2 levels. Not sure why GM does that. I know the G8 GT had such lousy power ratings because it was tuned to run on regular grade gas. That shouldn't be the case for the GXP. Anyway, a Camaro that weighs less and has more power should perform noticeably better than the VXR8. I would hope the Camaro has a more agressive suspension setup compared to the family sedan G8 as well.

They have tested quite a few Holdens in the past, actually. They were the show that introduced the HSV line to enthusiasts years ago, thus creating a desire in the UK for those cars which culminated in an initial direct import of Holdens and later rebadged Vauxhall variants. 🙂

I wonder how the GT2 actually did on the track. I was a little surprised they didn't actually reveal that. Maybe they'll show the lap at the start of the next episode or something.

Watching that GT2 chase that Lamborghini around the track was sick. The way it was sliding all over the place looked like fantastic fun.

I watch quite a few British shows (albeit I'm not English like some chaps are here) and they're almost always 6 episodes per season.... Makes it a real bummer when I watch IT Crowd 🙁.

Oh and I think I got this episode last night, but I have yet to watch it. Sounds like it was a real pissin' good time, you blokes. (Gotta get into the British way of things before watching)

These people need to be shot; how can people not have a sense of humor? People need to dislodge the stick out of their ass and fuck off. Fucking morons.

When I say the Camaro and VXR8 are the same, I mean that they are based on the same car platform and have the same V8. Unless GM ruins the suspension for the American market (which they have been known to do), it should be very similar to drive.

And the Camaro is a 2010 car. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see the 2010 model year begin in March 2009...

On the subject of the P2, I might point out that Top Gear has long been bemoaning the death of the British sports car industry, and take every possible chance they can to cheer on the few properly decent cars you can buy. Were the Camaro made in Swindon, you would have been watching the Stig powerslide it around Gambon earlier this evening.

Meh, you might be right, but I can't see them just ignoring one of the most heavily hyped up car simply because it shares the same sort of equipment.

Speaking of the Monaro, they reviewed a 4.8L V8 Monaro, and a 5.6L V8 Monaro...or something along those lines...either way, same car, different engine. They also reviewed the CTS-V Caddy from '04 which also was a similar V8 engine. So who knows?

I really want to see it on the track though.

Please tell that to the conservative freaks who rule the US as well. Nipplegate was far too drawn out....

Clarkson really got a jolt hitting that brick wall. Kind of weird seeing him wince like an old lady. I expect most people to do that but it was funny nonetheless.
They actually should have added a headrest to the seat. He sure got hell of a whiplash.

I can't wait til next week.

Afaik, the people most likely to freak out about anything are the PC crowd...which tend to be the big "government needs to save us!!"

No BBC here at school 🙁

I'll be needing to torrent this tomorrow.

Which torrent do you use to get it? I'm looking at the bay and nothing.

www.finalgear.com

It's a fan site and they have a torrent link up within hours of the episode airing.

No, that would be the super social conservatives which by definition should be small government but aren't always.

Anyway, I just saw this episode and I really liked it. Only got into Top Gear in Season 11 but it's a great show. I hope they show the GT2 time as well but I doubt they will.

When teh fucking hell does the fucking episode air, because I have been checking piratebay, mininova etc, and they're not on there yet. I recall downloading it by now last week. Useless wankers.

It's not nice to insult others because of your incompetence. It was posted on mininova an hour ago, look again.

Indeed, awesome episode. I wish there was more about each car (why the liked/disliked them), but it's sort of like rooting for the home team, and that's why I was so excited when I first heard they were doing this comparo 😀.
