I've seen the first 3 TG AUS episodes (downloading the 4th now), and I have to say that each episode is making the series grow on me. I enjoy the guys' personalities, and the cartoonist guy has a good sense of humor. Their choice in music is not nearly as good as TG UK, but I'll guess that is due to limited licensing budgets, since I haven't heard any recognizable music so far. But I enjoy their takes on the cars, and I enjoy seeing reviews on cars that probably won't get reviewed anywhere else.

clarkson, hammond and may drove a tank across the tower bridge in september

this is going to be epic

in addition to a new topgear.com, there is now a us top gear website.

Top Gear USA

It?s official; Top Gear is now in America.

You might have noticed two little flags next to the Stig on the home page. That?s because, as of this afternoon, there are two topgear.coms, one for folks here in the UK, one for folks in America.

That?s right, we?ve launched not just one new topgear.com this month, we?ve launched two.

You can visit both by clicking on the little flags, otherwise a big computer here will decide which site to send you too depending on where you?re logging on from.

We?ve got a loyal and big group of fans in the US. When they?re not watching Top Gear on BBC America (far and away the biggest show on America?s fastest growing network!!!), they?re usually to be found on their own fan sites or downloading episodes illegally on torrent sites. They?ll do anything for a dose of Top Gear.

So we?ve given them their own site so they don?t have to steal stuff anymore ? there?s a bunch of great video content on there.

And there?s more new stuff specifically designed for car-mad Americans who are bored with their own motoring mags and, let?s face it, who wouldn?t be?

Log on, take a look. Just make sure its here you come back to.

"in the meantime, keep tuned to bbc america. keep watching top gear's there. keep trying to download in your back bedrooms, illegally."

the us site has a forum, and the uk site doesn't. some writers' blogs are copied, but the responses aren't shared.

as for the bits i bolded, i suggest a couple reasons why someone would be inclined to download the show:
1. the episodes on bbc america are heavily censored, re-edited, shortened, and laden with advertisements
2. the bbc still does not have any inclination of showing current episodes on bbc america

i still predict doom for top gear usa. i don't want to watch a top gear clone, i just want to watch plain old top gear. send me the f'ing current show, in unadulterated form, please.

I am so fucking tired of not having TV, and the BBC is not going to air this on US tv I think, so that leaves a very limited alternative left.

Wait what time does it come on? I have never even checked BBC America to see if it's on before, since I didn't get into TG until earlier this year

EDIT: Shit I missed it 🙁

I'll be needing to torrent this tomorrow.

Which torrent do you use to get it? I'm looking at the bay and nothing.

Agreed. This was a pretty funny episode. Looking forward to next week when we get to see the ZR1, CTS-V and Challenger SRT8.

When's that one coming on? I cannot wait for that

I'm wondering who drives which one. (Yes, I could go read some spoilers. But I don't feel like it.)

I'm guessing Clarkson in the ZR1, May in the CTS-V, and Hammond in that fat stupid Mercedes knockoff they call the SRT8.

There are two very good reasons they haven't done the Camaro:

1. It's more or less the same as the Vauxhall VXR8, A.K.A. Monaro, which they love to death.
2. Top gear usually only reviews production cars, and it's not going to be sold until the 2010 model year - about nine months from now.

Pretty decent episode...next week they travel to the USA 😛

Looking forward to that one. I felt this one was a bit of a let down, I was expecting more car porn and action, but we got trucks instead. Oh well, next week should be very interesting.

Has it been confirmed that they're not reviewing the Camaro this series?

1. Doesn't matter, a Ford GT is more or less the same thing as a Dodge Viper SRT-10, and both were reviewed

2. Top Gear occasionally breaks its protocols, like the P2 Prototype which was a car that never even got considered for production, but it was so cool, TG wanted to check it out.

Also, the Camaro comes into the market this March, if I recall, so there should be some sort of chance of seeing it.

The Ford GT and Viper SRT-10 have only three things in common: They're both American, they both use heavily modified truck engines, and they both have a bit over 500 horsepower. (The first one is only half-true in the case of the GT, though - a lot of it was designed in England.) The Ford GT was designed to compete with the Ferrari 360 and Lamborghini Gallardo - it's a civilized car which you could cheerfully drive across a continent (providing you don't mind stopping for fuel every ten minutes.) The SRT-10 is much cheaper, much less complex, and far more hardcore - it's in roughly the same price segment as a top-spec Corvette, but comparing it to the Chevy wouldn't be entirely fair thanks to the SRT-10's lack of comfort or convenience.

When I say the Camaro and VXR8 are the same, I mean that they are based on the same car platform and have the same V8. Unless GM ruins the suspension for the American market (which they have been known to do), it should be very similar to drive.

And the Camaro is a 2010 car. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see the 2010 model year begin in March 2009...

On the subject of the P2, I might point out that Top Gear has long been bemoaning the death of the British sports car industry, and take every possible chance they can to cheer on the few properly decent cars you can buy. Were the Camaro made in Swindon, you would have been watching the Stig powerslide it around Gambon earlier this evening.

The VXR8 and the Camaro share the same platform, and that's about it. The Camaro is smaller all the way around and about 250lbs lighter in its heaviest configuration. They don't share the same V8 either. The VXR8 uses an LS2 I believe, while the US G8 has an L98 which is based off the same block but has DOD. The Camaro SS uses an LS3 slightly detuned from the C6 specs still giving it a power advantage over the VXR8.

It didn't make an appearance in the Top Gear trailer for this series, so I would not expect to see it.

I enjoyed the episode. I like it when they have huge multi-part challenges like that. I laughed my ass off when Clarkson pulled up in the blacked-out "Magnum." I thought Clarkson's test drive of the GT2 was pretty damn funny as well, but I really want to know how it fared around the track.
