Top Gear Discussion Thread (07/10/2005)

On tonight...

TVR's awesome Sagaris is put to the test
Ford's Transit van has a landmark birthday - and gets sent to the Nürburging. Crikey!
This week's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is The Darkness's Lycra-clad front man Justin Hawkins
There's yet another chance to vote for your top driving tune of all time

Yay! Tonight we get to see Sabine Schmitz kick azz in a mini van!

The transit isn't really a mini Van. It's a commercial vehicle. Some have 15 seats in the back but thats hardly 'mini-van'. Just an FYI 😛

The Sagaris should be a laugh....if it stays running for a lap or two.

I'm betting Sabine gets the van around the track in 9:59.

Anyone else think that a lot of the stuff on the show is staged, and the times are just made up sometimes?

No.

The Corvette's time was pretty bogus. I mean, the Top Gear test track has CURVES! 😉 😛

Sorry, but I don't think ANY of it staged. Carefully planned and executed, yes.

And it seems that the driver gets a varying number of practice laps. Some cars, none come to mind, really, don't seem to have gotten their full potential in.

He practices until he feels that he's doing the best time that he can.

the funny thing is that it scored the same time as a 575M

i'd love to see how a Z06 would do. but they'd probably run it when it was monsooning outside.

Yeah, but the 575M is a fraction of the cost of a Corvette.

yeah, it costs about 249/50ths of a corvette's price

That's a little high. A 2004 575M was $220k, and the 'vette was $55k. I was coming up with 4/1.

Seen the new Superamerica?

While I loved the 555 Barchetta, I still hold that a Ferrari with an engine in the front is like a hooker with her tits on her back.

Anyway....

Good episode, the Transit van at the Nurburgring was great (amazing car control, that girl) and the Sagaris was pretty good entertainment.

Plus, there's another race 😀

Safe to say you won't think it's too staged hopefully.
And the bombshell at the end of the episode? We can only dream 😀
