I won't watch it. I watch Top Gear for Jeremy, James, and Richard, they're humorous to watch. These clowns are not and the show will fail.

I think it's pretty cool. Maybe people will see there is more to cars than simply HP and "stop-light to stop-light" drag-racing. It's pretty fun to watch them really put some new cars to the test, and show strengths and/or weaknesses.

Of course there could be some suspicion on the viewer's part when "Oh noz! How did that HEMI lose to than piddly i4? This was rigged!". 😉

Carolla would have been the closest thing the US has to a Jeremy Clarkson. The reason Leno doesn't work is because he is a standup comedian who happens to like cars... Carolla and Clarkson are more of personalities, that happen to like cars... which I think is better because they are able to articulate ideas and opinions, instead of punchlines like Leno or the like. The reason the UK version works is because the show has evolved that way... watch an early epsidode and you will see why. The stars have developed a chemistry that can only be happen as a result of time spent hosting together. I will watch, but I am certain I will be let down.

Completely agree on all accounts. I'm not a huge Carolla fan, but I would have enjoyed him...and you are right about the chemistry evolving over time.

carolla was hilarious back in the loveline days and would have been great on an american TG. will still give it a chance though.

I disagree. Leno is a car nut through and through. Check out the videos on his website. He knows a ton of stuff about cars and is a great driver. His commentary on them is always enjoyable as well. I'd have loved to see Leno on a Top Gear: America, but he wouldn't make enough $$$ off of it.

When I heard Jay was doing something like the "Star in a Reasonably Price Car" it got me excited...but when I saw the execution, I was more disappointed than I would have been finding out that the girl I've been hitting on all night is a transvestite.

It was a complete train wreck. BTW-Jay Leno has been on Top Gear and did a lap of their track so obviously he watches the show and this was the best he could come up with? Lame lame lame...

I don't know if I agree with that. Is Adam Carolla a car guy? Clarkson is a car guy...or at least he pulls it off. Adam Carolla would have to be able to pull that off and I don't know if he's capable of that based on what I know of him (and I've seen a lot of the stuff he's done).

He does seem to be a car guy; has a regular podcast show and a car podcast now.

He has a Podcast called "CarCast" I believe. He owns a Lamborghini Miura. I know this doesn't automatically make him a car guy...but he definitely fancies himself one.

The 'first' episodes of Top Gear that Clarkson did were in the early '90s and are not worth watching.

i think he owned an m3-gtr as well, or maybe just a plain M3..can't recall but he talked about it on loveline often

The thing that makes Clarkson humorous is that he's a car guy that knows nothing about cars. He knows what he wants in a cars performance, but that's all. He has no clue how a car company makes a car perform well nor does he really want to find out. While in contrast you've got May and to a lesser extent Hammond who understand the engineering behind it all.
