I just find myself daydreaming while watching it. It's so boring and the presenters just try too hard to inject humour.

Just saying.

in their defense, the original top gear is one of the best shows ever put on a television. it is hard to compete with. that show had a great mix of writing, hosts, enthusiasm, cars, and miscellaneous intangibles that just made the show perfect. top gear US is missing most of the above.

US remakes of UK TV shows are generally completely awful, The Office is the only passable thing I can think of.

I actually enjoy the American version, I don't find the BBC Top Gear to be terribly entertaining. The only reason I watch either is because I like cars and there aren't many shows about cars, I can't be too picky about which car shows I watch.

The American version is much better. The hosts of the UK version are snobby, rude, and unfunny.

That says everything we need to know about you. The Office is terrible on any side of the pond.

I didn't like Top Gear USA to begin with, but it got better and I like it now.

Well the world of critics and award judges will disagree with you on that one. So I'm more than happy with my opinion, the Office (UK) is one of the greatest programmes committed to film.

The thing that bugs me about all American car shows is they never bash cars no matter how bad they are. I mean, they might mention an annoying design trait or feature but that's about it. For example, would any show on American TV bash the Panamera for being repulsively ugly? Or even to a simpler point, would any show point out how truly difficult it is to get in and out of an Exige? Or how about the was they bashed the Ford GT that Clarkson bought because it was so unreliable? I could go on, but you can see my point.

Top Gear UK and even 5th Gear are great in that when they think a car is truly awful they say so. You may not like their mannerisms or personalities, but on average they tend to give a more honest opinion (their love for British cars notwithstanding).

I've actually enjoyed it quite a bit and found several of the episodes very funny. Have I learned anything about any of the cars? Not really. But I've been entertained.

*shrug*

I much prefer the British version but I don't get it... America fills in just fine, and the guys' rapport gets better with each episode.

Watch 'Mad Men' now that's a great piece of American television.

I think the American Top Gear is very entertaining. Some of the originals are good too, but meh.

I'm not arguing that there aren't great American programmes, there are! Absolutely loads. My point is that when it comes to remaking UK TV America does shit.

Nothing can top Jezza, Capt Slow, and the Hampster. The US version is a steaming pile of **** in comparison.

and the original top gear was also terrible its first few seasons according to most people.

TG USA got better towards the end of season 1. haven't watched anything past that though (i don't watch a whole lot of tv anymore)

I think the program has a lot of potential, but they have to make it their own and stop trying to copy TG UK in its entirety.

I enjoy American humour – I just wish TG USA put their own twist on it.

The UK version of Top Gear is one of the best shows ever put on the tube. It take s a totally different approach to car shows and its a world wide hit.

Its also the cast that makes it. Those Richard, James and Jeremy dont work by themselves but are an out of the part home run together. I hate the expression, but the original series was lightning in a bottle and its not something you can duplicate. Especially with the lame ass hosts they have for the American version. 2 normal looking dudes and fat slacker aint gonna get it.

Top Gear USA is just unwatchable to me. I wish Carolla had been available to do the show, because I'd really like to see him in that long-form environment rather than the very tightly-edited Car Show.

I was recently in Manhattan and saw 3 exotic cars (if memory serves two of them were a Gallardo and a Bentley GT SS) parked in front of Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. I looked more closely (I was across the street) and saw Top Gear plates on the cars, so I started to head toward the cars to see what they were doing in case it was a TG UK segment. I then saw the TG USA guys standing around, and walked away.
