top end cards from ATi and nVidia?

How much are the top end cards from both companies suppose to be? seems like they are still hard to find after being released for so long and the places that do have them are charging more than MSRP? I'm talking about the x800 xt and 6800 ultra. Quick check on newegg just now has x800 at $650 with only asus in stock and nothing for 6800. i don't remember the price gauging going on this long in the past.

For some reason, this round of video cards released are staying very scarce. There's possiblely a shortage of GDDR3 memory which may be causing it. And when cards are scarce, prices remain high. Don't expect prices to drop much until true volume production has been underway for awhile.

If there was a shortage of GDDR3 they wouldn't be putting it on mainstream cards. I think it has to do with core/PCB design and production issues.

Check CompUSA, they might have a PNY 6800U in stock for MSRP ($500).

ATi seems to be introducing the XT, and it appears they might push the X800P down below $400MSRP and move the XT to $400MSRP, to compete directly with the XTPE. Anyway, I think NewEgg has a Sapphire XT for ~$460. Considering it performs almost as well as a XTPE, and has all its features, I'd grab it if you wanted a top-end card now.
