I agree that you can't compare the two. One is going more towards the core of the franchise, another is trying to...umm...I don't know.

While both have good features, like Heath Ledger's performance or the better bat-gear, I have to give it to Burton, Keaton, Nicholson, and Prince. The writing was better with Burton's, the acting was better all-around, and the gear was better.

The whole voice thing is just ridiculous. Same with the car. WTF? A black painted ex-military project? Who the fuck made that decision? Let's see - DoF orders a bridge truck, shit-cans it, but *nobody* will ever recognize it and start tracking it backwards? That's a plot hole so big you can drive the tumbler through it.

I like the voice of Nolan's / Bale's Batman. That's exactly what it would sound like to try to disguise your voice from people who would recognize your normal voice.

The old Batmobile makes no sense. It's not maneuverable or practically designed. Even a normal coupe would have more flexibility. The "Tumbler" Batmobile is one of the best things about Nolan's reboot.

You know its not fins, its the bats wings. Who the hell is we? Its impractical in terms real physics, but bats has gone up against guys like superman, who could punch his head clean off in a nano second, yet he still pulls out the win once in a while, whats practical about that?

I think both set out to create entirely different movies. Burton wanted to make a comic book movie filled with iconic imagery and Nolan wanted a movie that stood without the camp. Unfortunately for Nolan, that just doesn't work in a Batman setting. I can recall tons of details that stood out in the Burton Batman movies (Borscht is supposed to be cold or the wicker people, for example). The only thing that really stood out in Nolan's films were the Joker's performance and Bane's moronic bullhorn voice dub.

Now, I don't think they were particularly bad movies, per say, just that as comic movies they don't stand where comic movies should. They are far too serious, and I am not talking about the tone of the plot. The attempts to make Bruce Wayne a character just wasn't there. He wasn't funny, charismatic, or even likable. He can be described just like Qui-gon Jinn: if it wasn't for his job, he would be completely forgettable. Look at the Iron Man movies; Tony Stark is a real character, with flaws and quirks (and alcoholism) that you like beyond the fact he is Iron Man.

Burtons Batman? Forgettable. Haven't seen it in 20 years and don't have plans to see it again. Nolans take? Watch the Dark Knight at least once a month. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight rises every other month.

I think I liked both takes equally. Burton's is stylized more like the classic comics. Gotham had a great Gothic/art deco art style to it. There's nods to the camp aspects as well. It's a very fun movie to watch, and delightfully weird, like most of Burton's films. Batman Returns was one of the first "gown up" movies I remember seeing in a theatre.

Nolan's is much darker, and more in line with the later comics. However, it's very much a typical action movie for it's era. It's very dark in style and tone, with a lot of explosion filled action. Maybe takes itself a bit too seriously. I really enjoyed Heath Ledger's portrayal as the Joker, like most people. I think that's what really made that trilogy. I didn't enjoy the other two as much. They're good movies but lack the same kind of imagination.

Batman: The Animated Series is oft forgotten by fans of just the films, but it's definitely worth checking out. It retains the great stylization of the Burton films but it a little more serious in its tone. Plus Mark Hamill is brilliant as the Joker. I know it's streaming on Canadian Netflix, though I'm not sure about the US.

I wasn't a huge fan of Burton's Batman but I could see how they'd be mindblowing for the time. They were pretty good but eh. I actually did not like Nicholson's Joker that much. There's also something about them that just has a wonky tone, where they are actually every bit as kitschy as Batman Forever but they don't embrace it like that movie does.

Nolan's Batman was good but but I get tired of people acting like they're flawless masterpieces (but that seem's to be a given with Nolan). The writing at times is Michael Bay movie bad. There's plot holes all over the fucking place. Ledger was good (hell I'd even allow great considering what he had to work with) but the character was not that amazing (Mark Hamill's Joker is better I think, too bad he wouldn't be able to physically pull it off, he actually has the perfect smile for the Joker, that sorta Cheshire Cat grin). And Bane was just fucking laughable (I honestly can't believe people could watch Dark Knight Rises without cracking up everytime Bane is onscreen and/or speaks). Who did sound editing on these? The aforementioned Bale "gravel pit" and Bane, and just overall whomever was in charge of how people sound kinda sucked. I also think Dark Knight had some of the worst editing for such a big blockbuster movie.

Yup, the older or first batman, Adam west...could really pull in kids, kids watch the newest ones and just dont have the same energy, they look confused, spooked out and dont even connect...I still see kids who have gotton the chance of their parents making them watch Adam west, and the kids are all over the place, climbing ropes, trees, building fortresses, making bat gadgets, and seeing them fight screaming down the road going POW, KAMOOB, POW POW POW. lol

The darker comics sucks, only when superman is portrayed dark its interesting, and yeah, only the joker made the newer batman come to life, the rest are medicore. But I do enjoy them just for the sake that its batman. Atleast it wasnt down graded like the DBZ movie. (Which I flew right out the window) an said...did they even watch the fucking toons!

Bane's voice was dubbed. I remember hearing that in test screenings people were upset they couldn't really hear or understand Bane very well (because, he was talking behind a fucking mask...). Nolan was reported to have been of the opinion "he is crazy, who cares?" but it looks like the studio won out and dubbed it with that megaphone bullshit we hear in the theater. When Littlefinger is talking in a plane and you can barely hear him, but all of the sudden Bane speaks and it is clear as day...

Fans of Adam West and Tim Burton Batman should check out The Brave and the Bold animated series on Netflix. It's 70s style comic book Batman, fighting along side heroes like Blue Beetle, Plastic Man against villains like Gorilla Grod and Gentleman Ghost.

It's halfway between Burton and West in the camp level, and good silly fun.

My vote for Burton vs. Nolan: "why not both?"
