exactly what i was going to come in here and post. how they ignore 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' soundtrack and various other works he's composed is a slap in the face; especially since he was just honored with a lifetime achievement award by the academy.

/turns up 'il mio nome è nessuno' (my name is nobody)

yup, vanity fair credibility = zero...

Well, the best soundtrack would be the one that won the most awards.. which also happend to be the one that sold the most albums.. its obviously, "the little mermaid" sound track. Who could forget, "under the sea", or "part of your world"..

Braveheart, mission impossible, pulp fiction... whatever... the soundtrack never won an oscar... besides, Ariel's a hottie...

From the supplied list in the OP...The Graduate

I have to agree with GT's list though...with the addition of Hamburger Hill.

Using that logic Titanic would be one of the best movies ever.
Awards don't mean anything.

Yes, Titanic should rank as one of the best movies/soundtracks ever and in some complications it does. However, because we now associate it with a "girlie" movie everyone's biased against it and it doesn't get a fair shake.

Now if you have a "manly" movie -- black hawk down, privte ryan, brake heart, pulp fiction...blaahh.. blaahh.. blaahh.. those get a free pass and are consider "better"... not for its intrinsic values.. (as witness by lower number of albums solds, box office reciepts, ie., less people did not enjoy it enough to go out and buy the album, etc...)

just calling it the way it is... :)

Pirates of the Carribbean was better than any of those...

For contemperary The Crow was better...

That's what I instantly thought of before seeing the Poll. But I voted for Trainspotting too, because that would be my #2 choice.

Edit: I think there is also a difference between what some people would consider a good soundtrack. A) Music goes along great with the movie B) The Soundtrack CD that get's released with the movie contains awesome songs that you love and would listen to again and again even if the movie never existed.

Granted, I don't have many movie soundtracks...

Aw yes Darren Aronofsky and Clint Mansell. Don't forget Requiem for a Dream and Pi.

Good pair. Kinda like Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

Are you people serious? Not a single mention of Requiem for a Dream in either the OP or the posts? It's like you're TRYING to make me angry!

I don't think they were including movie scores (correct me if I'm wrong), but leaving out Forrest Gump ST is criminal. That ST has so much history.

One of my favorite but relatively unknown is the ST to The Saint. The movie, however, is not noteworthy.
