definitely needs to be some representation of zimmer, williams, and clint mansell.
the latter of which has two scores I can listen to when I need to just chill, Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain.

No love for Clint Mansell's work, like in The Fountain?

Granted, I don't have many movie soundtracks...
No doubt, Mansell and the Kronos Quartet have made some great soundtracks.

Another person who has made a lot of good soundtracks for films is John Williams.

Cameron Crowe's movies have great soundtracks (as in compilations of contemporary music) - Singles, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Elizabethtown - take your pick.

If you're talking about scores, I like the ones from American Beauty, 21 Grams, The Fountain, Titanic and several others that escape my mind right now.

i second GTaudiophile's choices. Those are some of the best out there.

Oh, I would Titan A.E.'s soundtrack also to that list.

That's a nice list. I'd only add Crimson Tide on there as another great Zimmer soundtrack

I still think Dances with Wolves and The Last of The Mohecans have the best soundtracks made. Both fit the movies so well and you can sit there imagining each scene.

You can't help but think about how cool South Dakota is when you're in the badlands, or the planes. The sweeping brass, overlooking beautiful vistas. It's just such a moving soundtrack.

exactly what i was going to come in here and post. how they ignore 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' soundtrack and various other works he's composed is a slap in the face; especially since he was just honored with a lifetime achievement award by the academy.

I would agree with a few of those. The Big Chill has some of the most noticeable music. It would be hard to find someone anywhere that would not be able to recognize at least one of those songs. The same can't be said for GT's list.
