I can only remember one plane from South African Airways going down and that was almost 30 years ago. Very good airliner if you are into drug trafficking. Employees are easy to bribe.

I think Air France should be number 1. They are able to crash a perfectly good plane

They only lost seven planes in thirty years, compared to American Airlines with ten planes lost and US Airways with nine lost. :whiste:

How many flights?

When calculating averages there are more factors involved than just how many planes were lost over a period of time.

SAA lost the Helderberg in 1987 due to a on board fire near Mauritius. 140 people died. Only Air Disaster they have.

You will only see the old ones being flown by logistics companies. Same with DC-10, MD11, L1011.

I would think so as it has claimed the most passengers. Quantas never had a flight disaster. Personally I would avoid them at all cost. All good things comes to a end eventually. But I wonder how many of those crashes and such were due to pilot and airline incompetence. You can't really blame a airliner if their plane blows up in mid air due to a bomb or it gets shot down by some russian or Israeli fighter jets. But then again if they tell you to go and park it do not go and ignore it.

The results do not take into account the cause of the hull losses, or whether the airline is at fault, so they are not a perfect measure of how safely an airline behaves.

Ooops! We forgot to tell you that these numbers might actually be meaningless!

This is all hysterical bullshit. All real commercial airlines are extremely safe.

American Airlines has been the largest or almost the largest airline in the world for many, many years. Of course they're going to have the largest number of planes lost, they fly the most flights!

One thing that blows me away is that Southwest has never had a passenger fatality, despite the fact that they currently operate over 3,000 flights per day. Even by the standards of commercial airlines that is an incredible safety record.
