I'm majoring in CompE, SO is majoring in Chem E...

Hope these standards hole true for us!

Just because the starting salary is high doesn't mean it's easy to find a job in that field. Talk to any EE major who is graduating this spring, most of them cannot find work.

yup. I graduated in 07 as an EE. It took me 9 months to find a job and my resume was not bad at all. I can only imagine if I was out of work now.

i'd like to see the standard deviation, regional differences, and total hires of those. anyway, i'm not suprised. computer engineering grad here, though i've been out a while so it doesn't really apply anymore.

I have a Masters in CE, but no where near making that amount. Finished school during the recession.

It may be due to the hundreds of thousands of unemployed comp engineers with 3x my experience willing to work for 50% of the average salary.

I think I am gonna major in biomedical engineering or chemical engineering. What should I do?

Starting? right out of college? in 2010?

roflma, ya effin right. Maybe in NYC or San Fran. Everywhere else in the nation a kid fresh out of college is lucky to get $40k and he better learn quick or his job wont last.

I graduate in May with a degree in Computer Science and will making a little more than that while living in Houston. Good try though.

To bad Civil didn't make the list...
Hopefully its like 11 or 12.

But I guess it all depends where you are. Seems like everyone who graduated last year either got uber job at ~60K or crap job at ~40K.

Yes, petroleum engineering starting pay is great if you can find a job. I know a few people who are going to start out at $95k plus a starting bonus after graduation in May. Most, however, are still struggling to get a job offer.

I'm studying CompE/EE right now. Discrete mathematics is the worst type of math class known to man, next to probability.

Right next to my Home Ec degree and my friend's Afro American Studies degree.

Bullshit

"For starting salaries, engineering and things like nursing are pretty strong," says Dr. Al Lee, director of quantitative analysis at PayScale. "But the list reorders further into people's careers. Music doesn't pay very well, however the top 10% earns more than the average accountant. If you looked at the pay of people 15 years out, philosophy is actually in the top 10%."
