No you didn't. That game was torture and intended to make kids cry.

:)

Promise you I did.

Oh, and I know I didn't beat gauntlet either. Although I don't think that game has an ending to "beat" it.

I beat most games for that system. I have a crap ton of games still left and I was renting 2-3 per weekend to beat. Of course I had to buy the RPGs, because renting an RPG was dumb. The NES was right in my prime of being a kid with way too much free time on his hands. And living in a place where there wasn't any nearby kids I could play with all the time either. The few around like to play NES much of the time too.

TMNT made me so angry. There was this one jump you had to do at the end of a level to advance to the boss. Basically, it was a stupid jump that you had to hit just right to land...jump too high and you hit the ceiling, too low and you don't get the distance to land on the ledge....after I mindlessly killed the bad guys and jumped through the obstacles, this one stupid jump couldn't be acheived....of course, by the time I FINALLY would make it across, I would get so psyched that I was instantly killed by the boss.

I think they also put a pizza in a spot where if you went to actually get it, you would die. How cynical can you get game devs?

I'd like to nominate the original Final Fantasy for "Most difficult game for non-game reasons". Every time you put that into an old NES and got the flashing grey screen - which happened a lot on those front loader NESes - it was a crap shoot whether or not your save data would survive the experience.

I NEVER had that issue in 10 years.

I remember Dragon Warrior was "hard", or at least it felt like it took months to grind.

Now I can hit 65535 exp and gold cap in one sitting.

it was a grind, but you didnt have to hit level 30 to beat the dragon lord.

I NEVER had that issue in 10 years.

I think every single front-load NES would develop the issue after a while because of the loading mechanism design. The springiness of the contacts would be diminished over time as they were pressed-down. Replacement cartridge connectors say they don't have the issue, but I've refurbished mine twice now. It's an extremely easy and effective fix.
