they were IMO i liked my small college

main reason i didnt want to go to a large school was because i didnt want to go to a school with more people in it then the town i lived in

other then the 2 years i spent in Boston and my 4 years at college ive never lived in a town with more then 6000 people in it

I applied to one school and got my acceptance letter a week later. I  The Ohio State University.

Then again, I was looking at RIT a year earlier and ROTC there 🙂:shudders:🙂, but when I ditched the idea of computer engineering or computer science, I ditched that school and looked to OSU, although I was also beginning to look to OSU's engineering and CS tracks during the transition of interest. When i was looking at engineering, my dream schools would have been essentially any major IT school, however funding would have been a major issue.

my ex went to cornell. i visited her up there a few times and that place was pretty depressing.

My brother went to law school there. I visited him for a weekend in a December and it had just snowed, but it was an ugly snow.

It was so depressing, I wanted to kill myself after 24 hours, so I stayed away from the bridges. 😉

Berkeley is depressing too. I guess thats why they all take drugs.

I always wanted to go to Cal, but mostly because my dad went there and, eventually so did my brother, and I was a Cal football fan growing up (still am).

I went elsewhere, but nowhere on that list.

Good news for me is that my alma mater is #10, but our crosstown rivals beat us out at $9, ugh.

What were your dream schools as a kid, and looking back--if you haven't graduated yet--where would you wish you have gone?

Looks like my alma mater got #9, and we beat out our crosstown rivals like the little school girls they are.

😉

awwwwww, too us school girls go to a better college at a fraction of the price:

I found Berkeley (the city) to be pretty lame to. There are a few cool bars that I go to once in a while, but that's pretty much it.

Oh damn, owned there lol.

That said, I'd pick UCLA over 'SC any day for science. But sc pwns ucla for business.

Sorry boys and girls, but I'm going to my dream school. Horray University of Minnesota!

Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Programs
Rank..... School
1 Massachusetts Inst. of Technology
2 University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
3 University of California?Berkeley

(2005)

carnegie mellon is no dream school but it is pretty damn good.

But screw all the schools on that list... dream schools has a pretty short list imo.

Location, location, location:

UC Santa Barbara
UC San Diego
Univ. Colorado at Boulder
Univ. of Hawaii

So could argue for some schools in Florida on the coast but I'm not a Florida kinda person.

Comb of cool location and really good school:

Stanford
Cal
UC Santa Barbara
UCLA
NYU
MIT
Harvard
Columbia is kinda in the ghetto of Manhattan... which is still pretty nice but not as good as NYU

btw... what parents voted for Norte Dame?!? The school is not that good and it is in the boonies!!!

I should have gone to NYU (Didn't apply, probably would have had a 50-50 shot of getting in) simply for all the crazy business opportunities available to the students.

Univ. of Minnesota is good, no doubt... but most all undergrad programs use the exact same textbooks. The list means precisely dick for undergrad.

For grad reputation is important but your actual thesis advisor is vital to your post doctoral success. I.e. don't go to MIT just because unless there is a particular prof there you wanna work with.

You could go to a top 3 or 5 school for grad but not get to work with a really good prof in a high impact area where as at tier 2 schools, there are still a lot of incredible prof's.

For instance, some of the best scanning tunneling microscopy / nanotech prof's are not at top 10's... they are at places like Penn State, UC Irvine, etc. But working for one of those folks is better for your career than doing STM with a lesser known dude(t) at MIT.

except for the part where it's located in michigan. but i suppose losing to usc is always a treat 😉

Screw Stanford. All your classes would probably be miles from each other on that over-sized campus. I think they have a high student to teacher ratio meaning more packed lectures and less professors that get to know you. Also your team name is nothing more than a color, it's not even referring to the Cardinal bird. Not to mention tuition.. ha! Ivy League over Stanford any day of the week.

Texas (austin)

Washington (seattle)
Tennessee (knoxville... well... i think its cool, anyway)

Asked what factor will determine the college they choose to attend," 50% said the school that's "the best overall fit."
-well, at least the kids are wisening up

61% report high levels of stress about college applications
-lol, BFD

71% expect the cost of their degree to exceed $75,000
-gee, thats an expensive piece of paper...
