2005 Corolla CE with no options: 13305
2000 Corolla with 75K miles (5years*15K) clean condition dealer trade in: 4799 (36%)
2005 Focus ZX3 with no options: 11191
2000 ZX3 with 75K miles clean condition dealer trade in: 2470 (22%)

man it's hammered, even though a 2000 focus looks like a brand new car, and 2000 corolla looks dated.

thomsbrain, NFS4 -- Nice answers, not sure I agree with all you've said but legitimate answers none the less.

The problem is that GM and Ford are trying to fight Toyota and Honda on their turf. I think Chrysler gets it. They gotta build authentic American type V8 RWD cars, not Camry wannabes.
I think GM is starting to get it too, but Ford doesn't. I think GM needs to bring more Holden based products over here, just style them for American tastes.

Nevermind, I don't feel like being flamed by ignorant fvcks. Not sure why I ventured into an imports vs. domestics thread.

although i'm kind of surprised that there aren't any daewoo's or hyundai's on the list.

Just because you listen to the 80's doesn't mean you have to live in it 😛

I think you are wrong, they CAN compete, they just keep loosing focas. Any of the big American companies can match Honda's quality, it just takes a few years of dedicated effort on quality, not big product launches.

That coupled with home turf knowledge of styles and trends, they really can't fail if they would just get there act together (slowly they are I think)

Well Focus was a great car when it came out. I think it won 10 best from C&D for 4 or 5 years in a row if I am not mistaken. And it's pretty reliable, recalls aside. http://autos.msn.com/research/...=ratings&tab=4#rel
But it's still getting hammered on resale.

Good thing about the big three is they stand behind there vehicals much better. When something across the line isn't right they are more likely to issue a recal and fix the problem. Other companies just issue a technical servic bullitin which basically means, "yeah we screwed up and are acknowledging it but we arn't gonna pay out of our pocket to fix it, it's all up to you."

A few of those are discontinued models, which would explain that. I'm suprised the Focus is on there...pretty decent car.

me too. the reliability is still ford's, though.
