yeah, I kinda wish that my parents had sent me to SP instead of Chap ... but it was only for one year, so, oh well

Chaparral was closer to my house ... I was in one of the neighborhoods below Summitridge, near Grand Ave. and DB Blvd.

#4 here. However, I know that regular classes at this school *suck* because I took some. I felt sorry for those kids. The smart kids of the magnet programs mask the poor quality of a regular education.

Heh, not a single school from Corpus Christi, TX was included.

Apparently, schools with strict academic criteria were excluded from the list. Which makes this list pretty bogus. Link
New York, NY: Unless I missed them, I didn't see 1 NYC public school on the top 1,000 list. How could that be possible?

Barbara Kantrowitz and Jay Mathews: We are looking for schools that challenge average students as well as the most gifted and therefore we exclude schools that have strict academic admissions criteria. Some of the best and most famous high schools in New York City use a entrance exam for all students and therefore don't qualify for our list. That would include schools like Stuyvesant, Bronx Science or Hunter College High School--all of which would likely be at the top of our list if we did include them. There are other wonderful public high schools in New York; we mentioned a few of them in our story.

hmmmm... #58

i think we have dropped over the years... still made the top 100 though! woot!

I went to a school, The Talented and Gifted Magnet, that should have been #1 or #2 - but it isn't on the list. I took 19 AP classes, and I think 14 was the average. My senior class was 32 graduates. I know for a fact that we rank higher than the Science/Engineering Magnet, which is our closest rival in Dallas - we share the same building.

i believe it has to do with your number of graduating seniors? well, that was part of the equation that was used to come up with the list anyways...
