Teeth are bones. Think of bones like concrete. They can have fissures and are somewhat porous. They can weaken over time and due to elements. And they can chip and crack because of this. They have a strong overcoat to protect them (enamel) but are essentially soft and porous underneath (pulp and roots).

Another guy had a long thread yesterday about chipping a tooth on a Kit Kat bar. I explained to him my woes of bad teeth. My teeth never had this enamel coating that protects them. I lost a good deal of my teeth by high school. The rest are mostly gone by now (I'm 27). I chipped one of my teeth on a gummy worm. I chipped another one from drinking Diet Coke (not from the can itself, just the action of the liquid flowing over the teeth).

To me, heck, I'm used to it. I don't mind that I have bad teeth. There's a lot worse that could have happened to me. I've mostly covered it up by spending a lot of money over the years on it. I just like to remind people who DO have good teeth to take care of those darn things...:)
