My computer is almost two years old and I have never updated the BIOS so I want to now. Are there any tools to do this for me?

I searched Google and came up with all sorts of hoops to jum through including multiple floppies and things but I am not keen on screwing around with something I'm not familiar with.

So...is there a toll that does this out there or perhaps a straight forward set of instructions?

Go to your motherboard manufacturer's site, look up your model and follow their instructions for BIOS updating.

Dont update your BIOS unless:
a) your having stability problems
b) your upgrading CPUs

If your current one works, usually there is no reason to update it.

I think I'll heed that advice then - I think my problem is with the RAM anyway (DDR and ASUS A7A266 mobo)

I had an A7A266 with either a bad memory controller or 184pin DIMM 1 slot. It would get 50-60 errors running Memtest86 in the first pass. The 256MB stick of Crucial worked fine in the second slot though(and in other boards). And no problems with the 168pin slot either...go figure.
