Tool to detect if somone is getting on my C:\ drive here at work?

thatsright

Diamond Member
I have a XP pc on our network at work. Is there a utility, tool whatever that can detect if another user on the network is accessing my C:\ drive? Using the 'ole '\\thispcname-07\c$' access?

Typing netstat in the command prompt will give you all network connections, any data transfer should show up. Keep in mind if it is the companies computer you have no right to privacy so if someone from IT is on your computer you don't have the right to know or to stop them.

btw wrong forum.

If you think someone is accessing your C drive, unhook your network cable for a minute and see if anything happens.

I guess you could just go into Computer Management > system tools > Shared Folders > Shares and remove the C$ share if you wanted

i don't think you can do that. but you can go into the same section and it will see who is accessing your shares and what files.

go to 'administrative tools -> computer management -> system tools -> shared folders -> sessions' to see what you are looking for.

Open up your case and Unhook the cable to the C drive when not in use. If you come back and you and get into your OS then someone is using your computer.

Well...you can tell it to stop sharing. However, it will come back after a reboot.

Yeah, listen carefully for a 'GODDAMMIT!' or 'OH SH!T!.'
