Took me a while, satellite image of Dubai's new island

Ok I click that link and it points me at somewhere in Kansas. wtf

Edit: Never mind. Google isn't playing nice with my version of Opera.

Yea, there was a whole discovery channel thing about that like 6 months ago or so. Pretty cool, but I sure wouldn't buy property there. Seems like it's just a waiting game before it gets eroded away or completely destroyed by a storm.

I've heard the one modeled after a map of the world isn't doing so hot.

The construction out there is crazy. A customer of mine is an engineer for Flour and flys out there a few times of the year. He said they have something like %40 of the worlds cranes in that one location!

i heard shanghai had something like 40% of the world's cranes too...

Thats a great picture.... I flew over the palm island in a single engine plane and it was an awesome sight.. Couldn't believe that the the Dubai I knew fifteen years ago as a child had changed so much!!!

the construction there really sucks for the residents.. A local doctor told me that the dust in the air due to construction has affected the health of the children resulting in them getting sicker more often!

The building of this completes messages started by the Incas and signals the mother ship to return for we are now idiots.

20/20 is doing an expose' on construction workers in Dubai. Apparently they're being treated very poorly. They just said they make 600 dira(sp?) which is 163 bucks a month. Apparently the ruler's horses live better than construction workers.

Hah yeah.. i just saw that too. I wish they had more coverage on this story... but no, now they gotta talk about peeping toms...

I always found it, err, interesting how money is still the ruler of all. Oil-rich Islamists, corporate-buddy fundamental Christians...they like to talk about morals and what not but in the end, my country club estate is bigger than yours!!!
