Already planing on swapping in a V8. My friend has an FD with a built LS1 which he swapped in at his shop, hes also done a hand full of other V8 swaps so he is going to help me out. He is about to swap in an LS7 and Im going to buy his built LS1 and maybe later down the line pick up an LS2 block and swap on his heads, we will see.
lovely car
but i've heard some many bad things about the engine. are they really that bad?
Bad gas mileage, hard to work on, expensive to work on, not reliable and produce A LOT of heat. They are cool engines and make great power but just require lots of cash to maintain.
They really don't make that great power. For power to "displacement" ratio yes but that means nothing. The RX-7 had to have forced induction to be competitive. Look at the NA RX-8, still slow.
9k RPM never disappoints though. 😀
High RPM's mean nothing if you still can't make decent power.

Ive wanted an rx7 for years and about four months ago I finally decided to start seriously looking for one. Ive looked through a lot of over priced, beat up and salvaged title cars but Sunday night I found the deal of the year!
1995 RX-7 R2 model
75k miles
black exterior
black interior
no sunroof
ARC intake box
$8500!!!
Not only is it a super rare 95 but its got to be one of the cleanest rx7s I have ever seen, the 63 year old man I bought it from really took care of it. There is two downsides however; the intake manifold gasket is leaking and it is an automatic but for what Im going to be doing, it being auto doesnt matter, plus at that price, its ok.
Havent taken any pictures of my own yet but here are a few that the previous owner sent me:
Ive been looking everywhere for a clean black interior with no sunroof, the wheels definitely need to go though, they just ruin the car.
Yes.
love FD rx-7's
those rims look like volk av3's, if so you can sell them and get some cash back on those
as they're discontinued rims.
outside of being auto, great price, i will own one someday 😀
No actually, I owned 2 RX7's, the 12a engine, early 80's, and they were a blast to drive. Got one for $300.00 for parts and my DD was a copper GSL I paid $50.00 for because the guy couldn't get it to run right. I adjusted the carb and drove it away from his driveway. It had a small bit of body damage, but I replaced the hood and front fenders and just drove it. Fun car, very light, very agile. I liked it better than the 280zx I had before it.
