Too young for an Infiniti G35?

I would think most ppl would want to get the g35, but think of the extra costs! insurance, good cleaning supplies, and....PREMIUM GAS! plus, think of what happens IF you get into an accident. Your parents probably could get 2 accords for the damages!

I say go for an accord or maxima, they will last for a long time, the g35 is a new "modern" car, and those come and go every few years. Watch 3 years from now, something will come that makes the g35 look like your current car.

Negative.
The Infiniti clone of the Max is the I35, both also good cars 😀

G35 = RWD is the biggest difference.
And being an Infiniti you'll get a better interior, more luxury features, perks from the dealer, etc.

Saw a black one on the road yesterday. Definitely a hot car.

If you can, get the coupe.
IMO, it looks 10X better, and has somewhat of a usable backseat.
The Z is a true 2-seater, and performance (accelerate/handling) should be very close between the two.

My friend bought a G35 last month. He's 21 and just graduated. Fits him perfectly. It gives a very nice "young professional" image.
Let me emphasized that he bought the car. No lease, no financing. He's that good at saving money that he worked part time for 4 years and stowed away enough to buy the thing outright. Simply amazing.

What do you guys think?

How about you strike out on your own and work for a living instead of bragging about your parent's wealth and how they spoil you?

I don't see why people have to make statements like that. So what if our parents pay for everything, buying us new cars when we get our driver's licenses, pay for our college tuition/housing, etc etc? I find no reason why anybody would be jealous of something like that. Yea, my parents bought me a car when I was 17. They paid for all my undergrad education and housing, and will probably pay for my graduate education too. It's just that in the end, the roles will (or should) reverse, and the kids will end up taking care of their parents even if they still have a lot of money in their retirement funds. We don't send our parents to homes and stuff. One of my friends who just graduated from UCLA had never worked a day in his life up until last summer (which was at JPL). His parents paid for everything up until then because they felt that you might as well study hard while you're in school, focusing your attention on your schoolwork instead of having to deal with a job. Well it payed off, because he graduated summa cum lade, and is headed to Stanford for his MS in EE. Sure, some of you guys might not have it this good, having to work and go to school at the same time. One of my best friends from school is like this- he took a year off after graduating high school waiting tables at Olive Garden to save up some money for school, started at a junior college, transferred, then graduated with honors with a double major in business and computer science, and is on his way to a $90k salary. These people (like Carbonyl) definately have my respect because they did everything themselves and were successful at it. Then there's the other end. I have friends from Rancho Palos Verdes (you LA people should be familiar with that area) who got $40-50k cars when they turned 16, etc etc. I had a friend who got a '97 Lexus SC300 for his 17th birthday. Around there, there are a bunch of kids like that. They cover a broad spectrum. You get the typical rich spoiled kid who gets a brand new BMW M3, wrecks it while racing another car on the freeway, and his parents buy him a new one. Those people don't get any of my respect whatsoever. However, with those that work hard and do well in school and whose parents buy them $40k cars, I have no problem with. I just think of it as a "temporary" reward for all their hard work until they graduate and start earning their 6 figure salaries themselves 😉 Anyways, I've heard somewhere that there are stats that students from upper-middle class and higher families tend to have scored better on their SATs and stuff, one theory being because their families can afford SAT schools such as the Princeton Review and what not. It's simple... as you guys have probably heard before, in general, the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. That is, unless you do something about it. So don't whine about our daddies buying us brand new $30k cars when we turn 16. If your family didn't support you financially either by choice or simply because they couldn't afford it, tough luck. Life isn't fair. Whiners don't get anywhere in life. Don't go around thread crapping on people like LordSegan and myself simply because you can't get what you want. Go out and do something about it. Sorry to ruin this thread with something like this but people that make snide remarks like that piss me off.

Anyways, to answer your question, for $30k, you're basically looking at the G35, TL or CL Type-S, IS300, or some barebones 325i, A4, or C240. Needless to say, either the CL/TL or G35 have the most bang for the buck- they've got more horsepower than the rest of the cars in the pack plus they cost a little less than the rest of the herd. Also, consider the WRX as neovan said... very good bang for the buck 🙂 if I were to get a car that were < $25k I'd pick that. Personally, I don't really like the tail on the G35... I think it's kinda ugly 😛 I think the TL/CL Type-S look a lot nicer, but that's just a personal preference thing.

On a sidenote, I have another friend who just graduated magna cum lade from Pomona College and is on his way to medical school at Vanderbuilt on a full scholarship (which is approx $50k/year). He just ordered a brand new 350z out there, courtesy his parents. Getting that scholarship saves his parents what, at least $200k in tuition and housing costs? Tell me that doesn't deserve a $30k car.

Let us know what you decide... just remember that you're lucky to have parents that can afford stuff like this 🙂 I myself just got a '99 Honda CBR 600 F4 from my parents as a graduation/21st bday present 😉

bunmango: you have your opinion, I have mine. I think having parents pay for undergrad education is fine if they can, and I also think that parents paying for graduate education, especially professional degrees, is a disgrace.

Good post- I'm tired of hearing people b1tching about all this kind of crap. Whiners don't get anywhere for sure. My parents pay for my undergraduate tuition and housing, and hopefully my graduate tuition in another year. I don't drive an extraordinarily nice car (1986 Volkswagen, although in really nice, great shape), and all of my toys (mountain bikes, computer, home theater system) I bought myself with money I earned (which coincidentally is all gone now 😱 ). I agree with the above post though- some people can earn a nice car without being spoiled. I know someone who got a full ride to Southern Methodist University (extremely nice University- nearly Ivy League- in Dallas, TX) on a Mechanical Engineering scholarship. His parents bought him a brand new 2001 Corvette convertable. I would have rewarded my son with a $40k gift for saving me $200k+ in tuition and housing costs as well. I don't like people who wreck brand new nice cars and get another one like they're bedsheets though. But those that get one and treat it with TLC and aren't 'stoopid' with it shouldn't be hated- deal with it. Life isn't fair.

Nah, I got a killer deal on the car. Bought with only 9000 miles. Went to his house to check it out. He had a SL600, Jaguar XJ8, Denali, and a Dodge Ram. Needed to get rid of the SLK because he just had a kid and needed more room. Quick all cash sale.

Had it for a few years now with 0 problems.

Btw, a lot of ATOT is bragging. May it be their new cars, women, etc.

true, but I think it depends on when the graduate degree is pursued. Nobody wants to be pursuing their masters or PhD when they're 30 and having their parents pay for it 😛 I'm going straight through from undergrad, so there isn't a huge lapse in time so they're used to paying for stuff 😉 Also, the thought of being tens of thousands of dollars in debt from taking out student loans wouldn't be too pleasant.

Oh jeez, I never even thought about a Nissan 350z- that would be a sweet ride for sure!! :Q I would look at the pre-owned market though and through, though, throughout 😀. I mean, you can even get a ultra-swank 1998 Mercedes S-Class SL500 for that much, several late-model Jaguars and even 1980s Ferraris and certainly Porsches also pop into the scene. Just goes to show you...

I don't think I'll ever buy new because of this. :Q

I just think that if your kid wants to be a doctor or a lawyer, the hell with him, he can pay for it himself and use the debt as a motivation to do well. It doesn't make sense to pay for your kid so he can make $130k a year.

it does when he's gonna be taking care of my crippled ass when I'm 80 😉 but you do make a good point... I've known people in school that don't care about school and barely pass with C's and D's simply because their parents pay for it. They just take their time and don't care whether they finish in 5, 6, or even 7 years. But I also don't see why they'd need some motivation though- graduate school is a completely different field. Today most students go to college because it's "the right thing to do" and probably because their parents want them to as well. Practically anybody can get into a junior college and transfer out into a 4 year university to get a bachelor's degree. I don't see graduate/professional schools admitting just anybody. If someone wanted to pursue a law degree then I'd think they were doing it because they wanted to, and that's all the motivation they need. Then again, there's that Asian thing that "Oh I want my son/daughter to become a doctor" or whatever... luckily, my parents didn't make me do that 😉

I agree with a lot of what you said. Your right it's probably a cultural difference. With the majority of White parents it's either sink or swim. I sure know my parents where that way. Growing up in Costa Mesa I saw most Mex and AZN parents spend lots of time with thier kids and money as well. But a lot were spoiled POS too who ended up not as succesful as you seem to think they do.
If you have major funds sitting around AND you child is performing outstanding in school etc. without attitude it's OK. But most middle-upper class kids expect it (sometimes I've seen parents take out a loan WTF??)and thats where I have a problem. Because if the parents cave in then you're teaching this entitlement and type of behavior is ok. And at school many look down on "poor" kids which builds resentment accross the board. Some schools have moved to uniforms for this very reason.

Oh and to answer LS's question. If you want to learn about cars and like to tinker get a classic muscle car and fix it up. If you want todays muscle "car" get a ford lightning at least test drive one they are flat out awesome...

What do you guys think?

all i can say is good lord, you rich bastard. one of my friends got his parents to buy him a 2001 maxima GLE, .... and he just laughed at all our cars. ugh. and to think i had to pay for most of my car... and its even a salvage.

its a nice car though. you're probably just gonna get pissed when it gets scratched, go get a normal car.

EDIT: ok after reading all those other posts, maybe if this kid like somehow manages to pay for everything else, i'll erase that rich bastard comment. my parents pay for college. i mean ,.... if i were poor the government might pay for it, so well... thats only partially my fault. flawed logic all around.

but i did pay for most of my car, and i pay for my maintanence, and insurance, gas, and everything outside of college tuition and rent . i drive a 2001 nissan altima btw,.... but it only cost $7500 hence i could afford to pay for most of it.

all i gotta say DAYUM 30 GRAND!

My parents would never gimme that much. Not that they can't afford it (they pay my colllege 🙂 ), but it's got soemthing to do with values. I've never had any allowance and never really got stuff for achievments. I did get a car however, which made me very happy. i did get a good deal on it - $6900 (96 talon tsi awd), but im paying al the expenses tied to it.

screw character, i'd sell my character for $30k and pick up a 350z w/out a second thought.
And then realize once your parents are gone that you can't get through life without handouts and you file for bankrupcy. 🙂

I don't feel bitter or jealous for not having been spoiled as a kid - I appreciate what I get and it makes me work harder for it. And as a result, I'm doing a lot better for myself than most of the rich/spoiled kids I went to HS and college with.

thats the car the maxima should be, its so sweet🙂

props to you if your 20 and paid for it yourself.

not so much respect if it was a hand out.

but its a sweet car either way😉

Wow, I didnt expect this strong of a response... but then, thats why I did ask the question. Reaslistically, I could get a 19k Accord or a 29k G35 and feel pretty damn good about either one.

However, I plan to keep this thing for as many as 9 years. Drive it into the ground in other words. For my parents, the money itself isnt really the problem. Its more a question of "character". There are many factors involved in that as far as Im concerened. FYI, I cant afford a new car *myself* right now, because Ive only worked part-time at odd jobs. However, I am going to need to drive around quite a bit (I live in LA, south bay area).

All that being said, most people who see my car are not going to know if I paid for it or not. But, I guess im asking more if you think getting a G35 would actually damage *my* personal character.

Where I come from, a lot of kids drive BMW 3s and I have a friend who jets around in an SL500 lately. However, some kids also drive 1982 hand-me-downs.

Im glad you guys seem to be responding honestly, because thats what I wanted.

PS. I go to a good college and get pretty damn good grades.
