Too much power. Is it possible?

I went to Fry's today to buy a power supply for an upgrade I'm doing on my girlfriends computer. The system currently has a 230w generic power supply that came with the case. I'm upgrading to a 800mhz Athlon and though I needed at least a 300w power supply.
I bought an Antec 303x 300w power supply. When I got home and opened the box there was an Enermax EG651P-V(E). I think its an 550w power supply. It has many (10, I think) 4-pin connectors and an odd 12v connector, along with a couple of floppy connectors.

My Question: Is it possible to have too much watts?

Also : What's the 12v connector used for?

thanks

no as the system only uses what it needs from the psu. I think the extra connector is for a P4 m/board.
if you're unhappy with that psu I'll exchange my 300W one for it! 😉
