too many games

That is why I largely passed on the winter sales, except to gift a few games to my brother. I couldn't help but laugh that you were essentially playing games you never played to get achievements for coupons to buy more games that you would never play. At least it helps developers get their foot in the door. There is still room in the PC gaming marketplace for a small development studio to make a brilliant game, look at the success of Mojang with Minecraft, and lesser known eGenesis with their MMOs including a Tale in the Desert.

So even though it seems "wasteful" to buy so many games that sit undownloaded due to small SSD, it ideally is taking a large chunk out of piracy while giving smaller devs opportunities to turn a buck.

That's why I don't use Steam. I would be one those people with hundreds of unplayed games, not being able to pass up good sales.

I loaded up on games over the holidays, mostly older and oddball games for PS3 thanks to Amazon's continual black Friday-esque deals. But I still had some I grabbed for the PC via Steam or other sales. I was working nonstop for over a month during the holidays (100 hour work weeks) and was itching to play my backlog. Fast forward to some time off and I spent nearly all of it either working on the motorcycles or enjoying the freakishly warm days riding. So I have something like 20-30 games I have yet to even touch and just bought another one to use up my Amazon credit. Oh well, I get Tuesday through Sunday off plus have deferred holidays. Since next week is supposed to be crappy weather wise, I think I'm going to veg in front of a TV or computer for 7 days straight hyped up on caffiene and Adderall counting how many blisters I can work up. Thankfully there's nothing coming out in the next 6 months that interests me, so it gives me time to work off the backlog.

No need to rush through them, install a few at a time and play them until you're either bored or you complete them, then uninstall them and move on to the next.

I ended up with about 40 extra games over xmas, i've chewed through a lot of the smaller indy ones and left myself with 2-3 on the list for now, slow and steady wins this race :)

What I do is go into the Steam Sales with a budget in place. Not just a dollar amount budget but also a hours of free-time budget (which is more important).

For just about every game out there you can Google to find out how many hours it takes to finish the game. I usually add 10% to that because I'm a slow gamer and I like to take my time. I'm also detail-oriented and obsessive about finishing all side quests (in RPG games....not so much about earning "Achievements").

For me, a 42 year old married w/ 2 kids working CPA it comes to about 365 hours of gameable free time each year....yep I'd say I have about an hour a night. So I try to make sure I'm not buying more games than I have time to play.

I admit it doesn't always work.

I'm also the slow and steady type of gamer that likes to pay attention to detail... which makes this worse. But it's a good kind of "worse" at least - it could be actual homework, although my homework days are behind me. I'm kind of in a limbo state right now. Residency for internal medicine starts July 1st and I'm done interviewing. No more rotations to go through... just gotta blow through these games since I likely won't be gaming at all for the next 8-10 years at least.

New Vegas is easy. Just push through with the main quest. Do Yes Man. When he asks you to deal with the Brotherhood, White Glove, etc. just say "I know about them, and dont care". Game takes like 5 hours, tops.

Torchlight for $3 was a steal for me, i've been playing the crap out of that. Bastion is fun as well.
