Too low scores in 3DMark 03

The scores I'm getting should be way higher for my system I think. I'm getting around 5700 while I'm hearing stories of people getting over 8000 with my setup.

My system:

Athlon 64 3000+
ASUS K8V SE Deluxe with latest BIOS
ASUS AX800 Pro with latest ASUS drivers
512 MB Kingston HyperX RAM

What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, 3D Mark scores are relatively pointless. I wouldnt worry about it at all... If you'r eintent on getting higher scores, I suggest posing the question in futuremark's forums.

Yes, but I think it might be something driver related.

It's set to application. What is VSync anyway and what should I do about it?

That was a good read. Though, I do feel something else is wrong besides this benchmark not giving accurate scores. Recently my games have become a bit sluggish. Had it been no problem to run Doom 3 on high settings in 1024x768, now it suddenly becomes a problem. I have no idea how or why it does this and I just bought this system! I though running 3DMark would give me an idea if my system was running at its full potential and it seems it's not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to bump this, but I really need help with this. I can't stand it if my video card isn't running at its full potential (I paid good money for this thing).

In your original post, you said that you had the "ASUS K8V SE Deluxe with latest BIOS".

Did you personally flash the system bios on your machine after purchasing it? If so, did you notice the sluggish-ness AFTER flashing the bios (but things were fine before the bios update)?

If so, then the problem might be that the CPU speed got knocked down to something way lower that it should be. This happened to me last week. I flashed a new bios on my motherboard, but forgot to check the CPU settings. The result was that my processor was being clocked at 500MHz instead of the proper 1.8GHz. My 3dmark score and UT2004 perf dropped off by 50% as a result.

Yeesh... I posted this comment yesterday, but my username was considered 'inappropriate' by the moderator(s) because it contained the 4-letter "P" word that my 2 year old uses to describe a stinky mess in his diaper. My account and comment were deleted as a result. That seems a trifle absurd to me, but I'll play by the rules in order to try and be helpful.

Anyway... your original post says that you have the latest bios on your motherboard.

My question: did you personally flash the bios on the motherboard after purchasing the machine? If so, did the sluggish-ness start happening AFTER you updated the bios?

If you answered YES to both of the above, then the problem might be that the bios update has resulted in a drastic UNDERclocking of your CPU. This happened to me last week with my Athlon XP 2500+. I flashed the mobo bios, and noticed a sharp drop off in game performance and 3dmark03 score. What had happened was the the bios update caused the CPU and front-side-bus frequencies to be set VERY low. My processor should be clocked at 1.8GHz, but was only being run at 500MHz.

After I fixed that, everything was grand.
