$400 - $500 range (for desktop only, I have a monitor)

Mostly will be used for:
Email/Web
Photo editing
Light gaming (nothing first person)
Some light database work (usually do that at work)

I don't necessarily need specific recommendations. My current HP is crap and has been nothing but problems. Just looking for a reliable system or other general/random feedback. The only question I have is about Microcenter's house brand PowerSpec... any good?

Scratch & Dent Dell XPS 8300 with i5 2300 quad-core, 6GB RAM, and 1TB for $519?

An Inspiron 560 with Pentium dual-core sounds like it would do you, but the integrated graphics are going to be considerably below that of the i5's integrated. (Which is still well below a discrete card.)
You could pick up a 560 with Pentium dual-core E5800 (3.2GHz), 3GB RAM, and 500GB HDD for $279 at Dell outlet. That's considerably faster than my machine (Dimension E521 with 2.6GHz Athlon X2 5200+ and 2GB RAM) and my machine does me just fine.
Throw in a Radeon 5670 for ~$60 and you've got yourself a pretty nice light gaming system.
