Too hot for a stock E6600?

According to Speedfan, my Core 0 is 60C and my Core 1 is 59C while running Orthos. I think maybe I used too much Arctic Silver 5. Should I reapply?

Screenshot

Edit: Reseated heatsink with thinner thermal paste layer and got a 10C drop.

Looks normal. Verify those temps with CoreTemp and/or Intel TAT.

I'm running orthos right now. I've been at exactly 58c on my e6600 for the passed hour with quick temp drops every now and then. With the max peak temp hitting 58 I'm happy I guess. :) What kind of cooling are you using? What is your overclock and vcore at?

No overclock. The Vcore is in that screenshot. It varies but it's about 1.2V

I took the heatsink off and put on thinner layers of thermal paste on the heatsink and heatspreader, and when I booted up the idle temp was 30C. Running Orthos again and after 5 min, it SEEMS to have stabilized at 51-52, alternating. Wow!

50-51 after 10 min. I was right about the thermal paste.

Another question. My FSB is 1066 with RAM at 533. Should I set the RAM to 666 and use a 1333 FSB with 7x multiplier for the same CPU clockspeed? The RAM is DDR800.

wow 50 still seems pretty high for only 1.2v! (even for stock). I may be wrong, I don't remember.

I'm at 1.38v doing 450 x8 and never go over 58c.. But I'm also using an good cpu heatsink.

I think that OC you just posted is rather pointless. You wont see any real world performance gain.

Yeah, mercanucaribe, your 0 Mhz overclock won't see any performance gains over everyone else's 2.4 Ghz E6600's.

what you should do is raise the FSB to 1333 and set the RAM to 666 and keep your multi at the default (if your ram can handle that fsb; your cpu should be able to).

You might want to look at the case temperatures. Your room may be at 75f but if you aren't getting enough cooling than thats not going to do much good. For example, I've seen an Antec 900 series case keep the CPU at ambient temperature with an upgraded cooler, but it takes a ton of air flow to do that.

Hmm i get 45 degrees with orthos after 2 hours on my 6600 running at 3440mhz...However i do have another cooler than the stock one...
Either way as long as you dont get over 50 youre ok , if you do and in summer temps are higher then you should get yourself a new cooler.

*bangs head*

High temps are pretty normal with C2Ds as they're being measured via a digital sensor.

It's unlikely you'll be able to run under 60C Orthos load overclocked unless you're on some form of water or better.

You wouldn't want to see my load temps ;)

Let's just say that the real temperature you want to stay below is 80C.
Not 60C, since that doesn't happen unless ambient temps are very low.

I'm having slight problems too. Running a Zalman 9500 at stock speeds creates temperatures above 60C on load. The Voltage is about 1.3.

Changing the Zalman to its highest fan speeds only drops the temperature 5 degrees, to a bit below 60. This is extremely irritating, as it seems that I have no room to overclock... :(

My Xeon 3060 (server version of the E6600) OC'd to 3420 MHz @ 1.4125v idles at 40C with Orthos load of 64C in 75F ambient. I am comfortable with anyhting less than 65C load........

Hehe... Jealous??

and another question..

how come questions like these always end up here and not the case and cooling section.

:\

Its getting kinda lonely over there. :p

But anyhow on topic again...

n7 is right. These girls are hard to push under 60 load. Expecially since we got the bigger cache supply then a E6400.

And he's also right, you cant get low load temps unless your on water. :p

and yes im on water.
