The mods locked the previous thread about this offer before I had time to post this messsage. I sent an e-mail to the company:

<< I'm interested in your offer, but to be honest, it sounds 'too good to be true'. I saw the link to your site posted on a message board, and every other message in the same thread contains 'doubt' that your offer is legit. Here's why it sounds doubtful:
1) your paypal account opened 3 days ago
2) you use a PO box for an address
3) no COD
4) $200 for a laptopfor 2 years?
If you can give me some valid incentive to spend $200 with NO RECOURSE,
then I will, but at this point I'm a very doubtful potential customer.
By the way, do you sell to Canadian residents?
>>

Surprisingly enough, I received a fast response:

<< Yes. We do support Canadian orders. What I can tell you is read the Full Terms completely before doing anything. You are not paying for a computer, you are paying a processing fee for setting up your account to receive targeted sales campaigns for two years. In return, you get to "use" a free computer. At the end of the two year term of use, you must decide one of three things:
1) Return the system with no further obligation
2) Return the system and upgrade to a new system of the same level for 50% off the then current processing fee (Starts a new two year term)
3)Purchase the unit for the flat fee
The PayPal account we are now using we have just opened under our own name. Previously we had been using a separate PayPal processing agent.
The PO Box is for physical correspondence only as we out source all aspects of our business.
There is no COD because you are not buying merchandise, but as previously
stated, paying a processing fee to set up an account.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to use our contact system again!

Have a great day!

Now I know those are all valid answers to my questions, but what do you guys think? Should I pursue this? The cheapest system is $25...

We locked the first Hot Deals thread about this because it reeked of fraud. Exactly what makes you think we want another one? :|

Anybody wanna try it? I think you can get your money back if they scam you, as long as you use a decent CC with your paypal account. Just do a chargeback :) By the way, somebody e-mail them and ask them for a phone number.

I received a warning when putting in the 41111111111111 CC number that some items were insecure, never did see the lock. It took the order though. I certainly would not put my real information on there. Since you are not buying a product, but a "service", I wonder if the normal credit card protection would still work.

Set up a dummy paypal account, get some people to put about $25 into it, then send the cash on over and have the computer sent to your mother-in-law's house or whereever, and you won't have to worry about stupid surveys!

i guess if u REALLY...REALLY want a system and wanna try for $25 its worth a shot.
remember u will lose ALL your privacy. Its like selling your soul..only worse, u sell your family's too. :D

my questions are...
-what if i wanna quit after 2 months...what do i lose?
-how long are those surveys...i ain't doing no 32page surveys for nobody.
-what if your company dies ...its not my fault, so what do i get/lose?
-before signing i also want explicit details on the kinds of marketing i will be subjected to.

*also think about this, they probably get these systems for <$500. Some could even be refurbished.
In other words, they get to use and bombard u however they wish, for 2 FULL years, for <$500.
That, my friend, is a hell of a deal for them...NOT YOU. Ask yourself, how valuable is you and your family's
privacy and rights.

In short, don't do it.

What a scam! They "outsource" all of their business? What a joke, they have no business to outsource. How could a start-up afford to pay a middleman? This is complete fraud.

slycat: I agree on the desktops, but a 1ghz P3 laptop, 256 RAM, GF2GO, etc? I can't see how they would make enough money selling a single persons information to cover that kind of cost.
Also, at the same time, they get these in bulk, maybe refurbed, and they are dirt cheap. Then when they get them back in <2 years, can turn around and sell em on ebay for a few hundred bux.
If I were to do this, I would use jiwq's idea, though I would wonder if you could get in trouble for it....

I agree. This does sound like a bunch of bullshyt, but I'm not ready to give up yet - not for $25.

I just sent this:

<< Hi Jodi,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm happy to hear that you support Canadian orders. One last question. Is there any way for me to pay the
'processing' fee so that I can have recourse (in case I don't receive a
computer to 'use' for 2 years)? Paypal has NO recourse. My Visa does. Can I pay with my Visa?
>>

I'll post when I get a reply. I'm going to ask for a phone # too.

100% pure scam. they aren't asking you for cc info, so how in the world do they know you won't just take the computer and run?

And I seriously doubt the junk mail just stops after 2 years, also.

Why lock this?

It hasn't been proven that this is a scam. Give khtm some time to dig up some details for us. If it isn't a scam, this could be an extremely hot deal.

They can send me all of the freakin direct marketing mail (and spam) they want if I get to use a smoking laptop or desktop like the higher end ones.

GIVE khtm A CHANCE PEOPLE.
