InfoQuest's "SuperAccount"

Seems too good to be true. Look at all the features you get, for a low setup fee. Granted, $19.95/mo is more than I pay now ($12.95/mo at Brinkster.com), but SQL Server 2000 access is thrown in there! Unlimited ODBCs at that, when other hosting firms charge you for more. Also, Urchin web stats... pretty impressive software.

Can anyone find a catch or is this just a really sweet deal? And please don't reply & talk about places that charge $30/year and give you a bunch of stuff. The catch there is that it's either a fly-by-night hosting firm or they're sharing you with 3000 other people on one server. These people state they only put 255 people on one machine.

Seems like a bit much for them to be making from one server. I would rather co-locate a server with some friends than pay for that.

I don't believe SQL Server is included. You can set up as many connections as you need but the SQL server itself doesn't sound like it is included.

So then I found this below, which to me, means $1.50/mo/mb for SQl server.

255 people hosting domains on one machine is about 230 too many. Most hosting farms only put roughly 30 - 50 domains per server.

255 would no doubt overtax the system and be extremely unreliable.

Are you sure about that? 30-50 seems really low. So if they have 1000 customers, that mean like 20 servers?

This is a very mediocre deal. For a simple comparison, take a look at Readyhosting
$99 a year for 500MB and unlimited traffic on Windows 2000 server. SQL is $25/year extra. Second domain is only $50, btw. We've got a few accounts there and they work great.
There are lots of other hosting options in the $20 range. HTH.

I host all my domains with JTLnet.com. Things I look for are: a) not resellers, b) 24/7 1-800 # for tech support, c) own their datacenters. I've had a few 4am tech calls, and someone always answered and were generally helpful.

Some comments:

1. 255 clients overwhelming a server? Hardly. The load on a server has nothing to do with how many clients you have, but rather what they're doing. Many hosts place far more domains than this on one server, and things hum along just find. Even with moderate to heavy use sites, a well equipped server could easily handle 255 domains.

2. Avoid any host that offers unlimited bandwidth or storage. There is no such thing, and the host is inherently lying to you (check the fine print, and you'll see that it's not really unlimited. If it were, you could easily put them out of business by running up their bandwidth bill.)

3. $19.95 is still a bit steep. Go to www.webhostingtalk.com, and you'll find Windows servers for less than that, and you won't have to stoop to a fly-by-night or new operation to get it. Do a search there for hosts you're considering, and you'll find tons of reviews. If you don't find ANY reviews, that's generally (though not necessarily) a red flag.

4. www.thepowercomp.com (referenced above) appears to be nothing more than an affiliate link to ipowerweb, which has a slew of negative reviews on webhostingtalk.

Are you implying dixiesys only puts 30-50 domains on each server?

Wonder what they use for a control panel.. theres only 1 or 2 reliable ones out there.
