DUNGY OUT, CALDWELL IN

A league source tells us that Colts coach Tony Dungy will step down, and that assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell will take the reins.

More to come.

PFT isn't always the most reliable source, so we'll see. I think he'll probably leave.

I'm not even sure if anyone here cares.

Especially when the story shows up on a webpage called rumor mill.

:(

Hopefully not true. Dungy is a great guy and a great coach, but family takes precedence over work any day.

Why would he step down? They lost in a playoff game because they were just outplayed... I don't think Dungy had anything to do with it.

nothing to do with football. the guy has indicated he'd like to pursue charitable work and spend more time with family.

I agree that he's probably going to step down, but that site is far from reputable. He's not even scheduled to meet with the owner until Monday I believe, so such concrete decisions such as "Dungy Out & Caldwell In" would not have been made yet.

But then again he may decide to stick around one more year to complete the transition to the new stadium and whatnot.

Personally I hate the Colts, so I couldn't care less.

Yep. As for the news, they said the same thing last year (not on that site..just "reports" he was leaving"). I won't believe it until ESPN or SI or a reputable source breaks the news.

Gotcha, I dont follow the Colts more than watching them play when they're on.

I don't care much for the Colts being as I'm a Pat's fan but I do have a lot of respect for Dungy as a man and as a Football Coach. I hope he does what's best for him and his family.

Yup, he was a former Steeler and coaching protege of Noll. Had to retire at an early age due to an injury but was immediately given a coaching job. At that time it was very rare for anyone his age, and especially his race, to be given such a position. A class act from top to bottom, the NFL will be worse off once he is gone.

Is Monday really that far off? It's not like he's taking a page from Lord Favre and jerking everyone's chain for months on end.

Best of luck to him, whatever his decision may be.
