Tonight's Stargate Universe Episode [10-26-2010] - [Episode #0205. "Cloverdale."]...

didn't someone just get infected last week.

cancel this show already.

wtf? Scifi execs sat around trying to figure out how to make the dullest show possible out of one of the all time great ideas, the Stargate.

Who says SighFy can't achieve their goals?

btw when I saw Cloverdale I thought "Cloverfield". Maybe because they both use the shaky camera system.

I do too. The different atmosphere and feel of the show is refreshing after the previous Stargates. You have to admit that the plot has been a bit crap though.

Let's be fair. Every day at Atlantis was the end of the world. It can get tired really fast. The problem with SGU is that they literally ran themselves into a dead end by putting them on a ship with no way to leave. There's only so much that you have available for possible plot.

Are you kidding me? They could, oh I don't know, explore and find weird stuff on the ship? Have the ship run into weird aliens both friendly and hostile, visit interesting planets and civilizations? They're on the far end of the fucking universe and the writers have a completely clean slate they can use to work with... Instead we get the stones and the Lucien Alliance. WTF goddamned idiots...

So I'll admit I've long since given up on the show and have been spending the last year mocking it for being called Stargate, but with that said...

I was just reading another forum; apparently people were turning this episode off 15 minutes in. Was it really that bad?😱

Oh yeah.
You find out early on.

Kudos for those who created the DVR, the fast forward button makes this show easier to watch.
This. But only on this ep. because I've seen this scenario before just FF through the "I'm unconscious and confused back home thang".

<--- another of the few that actually enjoy the show. You really can't take it as a continuation of Stargate, because it's not. It's kinda like the new Star Trek or Windows 7, a reboot. Different from the previous but with similar themes. If you go into it without expecting "SG-1 on a ship" and take it for what it is, it's actually pretty good. But this is sci-fi (genre not channel) so haters gonna hate.

If the emo was even the least bit interesting, then it wouldn't seem such a huge drag.
However, because it is so bad, I literally cringe as soon as the go into emo mode.

What the frak was the purpose of last nights "oh, I'm having a dream" emo?

Stargate has used this scenario a few times, but when they did it was at least relevant.

When O'neill wakes in the "future" at least we don't know its a trick for awhile, same when the Atlantis crew think they're back on earth.

But on Universe, we almost immediately are shown its a fantasy, which doesn't really have anything to do with, well, anything. And the acting is, well, emo.

I guess there must be some 12 year old girls who wanted to see Scott marry Chloe in a real wedding dress.
But, come on. Is Universe even trying????

Edit: Forgot to mention T.J. looked pretty hot in her EMT outfit.
And, yet another episode went buy without Lt. Boobies showing us her impressive assets.

btw Caprica was pretty good last nigh. I think its a better show than Universe.

This. And a couple of nameless species who have no development or long-term role, + a random obelisk on a random planet that all the religious kooks presumably sodomized themselves on.

No it's not, because the new Star Trek and Windows 7 are actually good. Universe took Stargate's trademark hammy acting and then tried to take it seriously, while removing almost every possible exciting plot point. I still watch it because I have hope as of last season's finale. This episode at least had an external situation to go with exploring Scott's doubts about his relationship with Chloe (which, unless we get to see her naked, I couldn't care less about).

They need to stick with Rush and the ship as whole for their stories. So far every episode so that has delt primarely with Rush, the Rush Young dynamic and exploring the ship as been quite good. Robert Carlyle is of course a fantastic actor, and Louis Ferreira is pretty good most of the time too. The rest of the crew are so so, SO LONG AS THEY USE THEM PROPERLY. I fully agree these EMO story lines are annoying and are detrimental to the series. But they CAN use the other characters constructively so long as they are playing interesting backup roles to the main story. For example why the FUCK has Eli not been used as the smart tech head he's supposed to be, figuring out the ships functions etc...

Seriously. He was the one character they actually did right at the start of the series. I was expecting a whole Rush vs Eli dynamic where they're both the resident science guys but whereas Rush is detached and obsessed, Eli is more down-to-Earth and idealistic. They would have made awesome foils for each other, especially considering the situation would force them to work with each other but no. Eli's effectively in the background when he's not going after Chloe (who's in the foreground WAY more often then she should be), he's just manning the control stations with the other minor characters. This is the guy who solved the 9th chevron, something even Rush couldn't do. Why the hell is he, of all people, just twiddling his thumbs in the middle of all that tech?

Gah have they introduce the damm main villains yet?
Like the Wraith or the Goa'uld?

Because it would end the series inside of 2 episodes. Universe made it clear during last season's finale that they're trying to be the reverse of the hollywood stereotype. That being that Pirates and Mercenaries can not only shoot better than USAF Airmen and ex-special forces officers, but that the latter just flat-out can't hit shit.
