I'm more interested in why the scab / injury on her chin appears and disappears randomly throughout the show.

Actually I'm more inclined to think it's the goo, because he was mixing it ahead of time; but I think it is almost equally possible that the pimpbot tree cutting hydra devil with camouflage is it.

I think they are leaving things open to be interpreted very sci-fi ishly, but I really expect in the end it will all have a a real ish explanation. The compass thing could be caused by a big chuck of magnetized rock underneath the island - something giving off a field enough to muddle the natural magnetic field. Could be somehow related to the hatch. Now Im wondering if the hatch is the entrance to some bunker, or the escape door from somewhere else (no handle on the outside). It is probably some old abandoned top secret military lab or bunker and they used to use the island for weird animal experiments (resulting in the weird beasts and presence of electricity). Who knows, but its fun to speculate!

Was the polar bear seen in a way earlier episode confirmed to be a hallucination? If not, it would lend itself to HardcoreRobot's theory... but would also be a very cliched, has been done plenty of times in the past scenario

I am not sure anyone mentioned it above, but boone and his sister, who is really his step sister and not related by blood, had sex and it was revealed he had sexual / romantic feelings for her. She was basically a jerk to him, and had set him up on multiple occasions by pretending to be in an abusive relationship, and then boone would pay her boyfriend to leave her. But in actuality it turns out she scammed him. That was all before they had not technically but still basically incest.

It's not incest -- they're not blood related. She is his stepsister (revealed when he was filing a police report in Sydney).

EDIT: NM, I'm a moron and can't read.

Uh... which is why I said not technically but still basically incest, and mentioned almost everything you did. I guess you only read the last word of my post??

No. Michael (african american dude) as well. Also the african american lady we don't have much info on, but she's more of a secondary character currently.

The creator JJ Abrams already said it wasn't dinosaurs and that it is something very feasible.

People running experiments on the island is the one that makes the most sense...

Still no explanation for the monster this week. It appeared in this episode as a figment of Boone's imagination - I think nightcrawler's take on the monster is off - it was locke's drug that made Boone hallucinate about the monster.

but didnt Locke say to Boone that looking at the monster makes you see things?
i think his exact words were something like, "so is THAT what it made you see?" (referring to boone seeing his sister die). he could be referring to either that goopy paste he was preparing (and was preparing before he bopped boone on the head) or the monster. im inclined to think it was the paste... certain tribal cultures have used drugs and trips to do soul searching and stuff. i assume locke knows about all this stuff and was planning on sending boone on one of these journeys for some time

just my take on it, like someone else said, if they explain everything there wont be any reason to watch!

Now...prior to Locke seeing the monster wasnt he unconsious too? or was it the other way around?

I can see how knocking Boone out and then sticking the goop could have caused the hallucination. But there is something else that I just cant put my finger on....

if anyone has all episodes "taped" maybe it would be cool to watch em all back to back...so many little details get LOST from one week to the next and so on.

good show tho!

No, most of the cast saw it, so it's real. It looks like another bear show up next week.

That's pretty much what I did, except for episode 13, which I watched a day later. Had to stay home on tuesday and caught up on the show.

Prior to seeing the monster, a boar had charged michael, and the others took him back to camp while Locke told them he would stay and get a boar. Then the doohickey showed up and granted him eternal life and the power to raise the dead. Or whatever it does.

I'm glad to hear it's not dinosaurs. I was very worried about it. I am glad it was just a bit o' comedy.

I'm hoping that mimbari chick shows up some more. I like reminiscing about B5 while she speaks while also kind of paying attention.

Two questions:

1) If the monster really was a hallucination brought on by something (maybe injury or that paste), how do you explain Jack and Kate seeing the monster in Episode 2 (The second part of the pilot)? How do you explain the death of the pilot of the aircraft, or was that a hallucination as well?

2) What does the compass have to do with anything? Are we to assume that Locke was misinterpreting directions the whole time, since his compass was off? I remember when he told a tied-up Boone that the camp was 1 hour due west (or something like that). If his compass was wrong, then that would not lead him to camp.

1. Your equating the two, I don't that's fair to assume. The "monser" previous didn't seem like a dinosaur, during the hallucination all I could think of was "jurassic park" (thud-pause-thud-pause-thud-pause-thud-pause-roar). Previously I didn't get that feeling... Also, did Boone see the monster before? Maybe he was imagining it to be a dinosaur, or maybe that's where he got the idea for a monster in his hallucination. The death of the pilot was definatly not a hallucination the way I see it.

2. Lock "doesn't need it anymore." He knows his way around w/o it. Sayid said it was off by more than a degree or two, which is what something like an iron formation would cause. He specifically said the compass was broken. By Locke? Maybe Locke knew this about the compass and adjusted, it was his compass afterall...

edit: Oh, and we all know the Chineese wife know english, but I think the husband does too. He reacted to Hurley saying "your wife is hot" a bit, kinda like he understood it at first, reacted, then caught himself reacting and stopped. Wouldn't if be odd if they both knew english and hid it from eachother?

They're NOT CHINESE! Haven't you been following the episodes? Harley calls them "Chinese" all the time and people like Michael would constantly correct him.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the rest of the casts' story. I can't blame Boone for wanting his step sister. Shannon is hot! 😛😀

Gah, sorry, Korean... 🙁

It's Hurley, NOT HARLEY! Haven't you been following the episodes? 😉

Yes, I have been following, and there are like a million details to remember. 😛

just watched it, was like NOOOO!!! when shannon died...that would be one less reason to watch heh🙂

and it seemed like it was the goo to me....

I really can't see this show going past one season. It moves too slow. I like it but hope it dies soon. And yes Kate is hot. I don't care if she killed someone and held up a bank.

You make it sound like that detracts from her appeal. Not so for me...
